Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kara Langill. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Kara, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
Health and fitness has always been apart of my life. To keep myself accountable, I would share tips, tricks, workouts, and recipes on social media. I recently was diagnosed with skin cancer and realized that is not something you bounce back from. Since the surgery where they removed the melanoma, it has been a process getting back into fitness and I have to lean into nutrition more than I did before. I am still figuring things out, but still sharing my process along the way in hopes of helping others who might be going through the same thing.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up as an athlete, fitness wasn’t new to me. I played softball through my freshman year of college and taught me how to be fit. Something that became part of my everyday life started to fade once I stopped playing ball. It happens to everyone. Once I stopped focusing on myself, I noticed my health start to take turn. It wasn’t until after college that I started back on the fitness track. I wasn’t seeing results as fast as I was used to. This was when I knew I needed to focus on my nutrition as well. This was a learning curve for me, but started to share my journey on social media to keep myself accountable and help anyone else who might be struggling as well.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Finding like minded people. I believe that if you find yourself a community with others who are also pushing towards specific health and fitness goals that you can keep each other accountable. Working together with someone is key. I feel like you can only go so far by yourself.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
This isn’t necessarily business related, but more of a general progression that can tie into all aspects of life. Early on in my health and fitness career I read a book called You Are a Badass and that boosted my confidence enormously. I was always categorized as the quiet girl. Always kept things to myself and didn’t talk much. After reading this book, I got so many compliments on how my composure and confidence changed in a work setting and everyday life.
