We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Matt Sullivan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Matt below.
Matt, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’ve love to hear an interesting investment story – what was one of the best or worst investments you’ve made? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Best investment , making the decision have my material professionally recorded.
As much as I love recording at home, I find that I can never truly finish something when I’m the only one recording it.
I prepare a production demo at home and then enter the studio environment with a cohesive roadmap of how I want to get the song re recorded.

Matt, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a new resident to New Jersey but spent that last decade living & working in New York City as a musician, producer, audio engineer & audio visual technician.
I worked in several recording studios around the city with local artists cutting demos, producing singles. All while developing my own pop punk bands throughout the years… It wasn’t until 2020 when the pandemic hit that I took the opportunity to create something a little happier to take my mind off the world imploding.
I started a pop punk/ ska band called Title Holder and started recording some demos. After a few weeks I sent the demos to Chris DeMakes from the band Less Than Jake who immediately expressed interest in helping me grow the project into what it’s turned into.
Originally this band was just me but after recording a full record we are 7 members strong and actively playing live as much as we can.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think my entire life is in a constant state of pivoting… Looking out for the best interests of my family as well as pursuing the band life has always been a delicate dance. After going to school for audio engineering and moving out to NYC in 2012 I realized real quick that I needed to actually be able to pay rent. Working at studios is fun.. but the pay is shit.
I found jobs as an Audio Visual technician paid the bills and I used whatever free time I had to work on music. It was a tough decision because I moved to the city to pursue a career in music solely but had to pivot to make sure I could actually live here…
When 2020 came I was faced with a unique opportunity while being out of work to strictly focus on being creative and I took full advantage of it.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I’ve been playing in local bands since 2002, I’ve always loved writing , playing & recording music. It’s very cathartic for me. It keeps me sane. I think throughout the years I’ve gone from trying so hard to be in a successful band or being a successful artist to just being happy where I am… Success is only defined by what you think it is… and I think if I can put out a record with some friends and play some shows here and there that’s the best version of what I want this to be.. If it gets any bigger that’s just icing on the cake.
This summer Title Holder puts out our debut full length LP through Jump Start Records and we’re incredibly excited for the journey ahead.
