We recently connected with DJ MADAM MAJ and have shared our conversation below.
DJ MADAM, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
The best decision I made was to take my craft full time! I left my 9-5 job, so the wonder of having a regular job isn’t there. I was unhappy in my position. Also, felt like I was just working for another person’s passion and just getting by. We have one life to live and just getting by, won’t cut it! I get to do what I love and make money! I truly despise repetition, having a regular job is just that! When I’m dj’ing or throwing an event, it’s a different scenario every time. The excitement of connecting with people through music is what drives me to keep going.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
To start off I LOVE MUSIC and Dj Madam Maj is the name. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY! I’ve been a traveling open format dj for the past 4 years. Music has been my passion since I was first able to sing my first little note. I was in youth church choirs, vocal training, school choirs, praised dance, oh the list can go on & on.
Recently, I jumped into hosting nightlife and networking events over the past year. Since making the conscious decision to take my craft fully, I can truly say its the best decision I ever made. I truly encourage any one out there who is looking to do more and find their passion, to just go for it! We have one life to live and we must truly live it to fullest.
My proudest moments are when people come to me and express how much of a good time they had whether it be from an event I had or from a set I just dj’ed. There is no better feeling than making other feel good.
A good vibe and good time is all I provide!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Consistency! The only way to build any network. You have to continuously put out content. The people need to see you working. Also, being personable with people. I’m currently building my TikTok following, and I must say it is going pretty well. Not only are people able to see me live djing, it gives us a chance to connect as well. My panel is open to the public and we have a good time discussing different topics on today’s world.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
For the most part society can do the easiest and most cost efficient thing, SHARE CREATIVES CONTENT! That’s the main support most creatives would appreciate. It would also be dope to have more performing art, arts, theater, etc, programs available to the public of all ages.
