We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jill Zwarensteyn . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jill below.
Jill, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents always stood by me, and they supported and loved me while I found my way to the position I’m in now. I also feel like they instilled big dreams in me through the importance of education and exploring places outside of our home town. I know not everyone is given such opportunities, so it’s something that I am thankful to my parents for.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the editor for a sleep wellness website called Sleep Advisor. I also have a travel blog, Humor Travel Life, which focuses a lot on solo and budget travel, often with a comedic angle. At Sleep Advisor, we are a resource to help people improve their sleep. We test and review sleep products like mattresses and pillows, provide helpful buyer’s guides for people shopping for these products, and have in-depth articles on important sleep health topics.
I began my career in digital media as a freelance writer. After about four years in freelance writing, I was hired as a staff writer at SleepAdvisor.org, eventually working my way up to the role of editor.

Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
I love being able to help people through my work, whether that’s through travel tips or sleep wellness. Of course, the process of creating an article is enjoyable in itself, but knowing that content may be able to help someone is really rewarding.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Before I began writing, I was acting (comedy, to be specific). Acting was certainly harder for some of the non-creatives in my life to make sense of, but I would say that, ultimately, creatives lead with the heart. We’re not afraid to take “the road less traveled”, and I think that’s something to admire. It takes guts to get out of your comfort zone.
