We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Helen Maiyu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Helen , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
There’s currently a rise in companies’ needs in user-generated content (UGC). As advertising shifts from TV to social media, there’s an increase in the demand for UGC. This also means an increase in opportunities for online content creators. Although there’s concerns of social media becoming too saturated with creators, I believe there is an audience and niche for everyone. In addition to this, social media’s algorithm allows content to reach its targeted audience making it more efficient compared to TV advertising.
Helen , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m currently a social media influencer & content creator. I provide marketing and content creation services, including UGC. As for my other creative works, I enjoy tufting custom rugs and streaming on Twitch on my second account @cozymaiyu.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is seeing my vision come to life. It can be easy to become discouraged during the content creation process, but it always becomes worth it once I see the final results.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Oftentimes when I’ve created UGC for brands and clients, I’ll typically follow up on future collaborations and partnerships to maintain a relationship with them. Doing so will help foster a long-term relationship with the brand and/or client.
