We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shino Inoue. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shino below.
Alright, Shino thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
I dived into the modeling industry when I was 21 as a professional model and got my first job then. I first worked for a famous Japanese local magazine after I worked hard on losing my weight. My manager told me to lose my weight before starint to work so she provided me a diet & work out program. I enjoyed the class and lost my weight in the healthy way in 1 year!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Some people might say it sounds pretty common but my mom sent photos of me to my mother agency. That was how my modeling and acting career has started. However, I was focusing on passing a test to study abroad instead of pursuing my modeling career at that time. I was so interested in other countries and there was only studying English in my head. When I graduated my college, I was scouted by a modeling school which is called Watanabe Entertainment college located in Tokyo. I wanted to study abroad after the graduation but thought I should choose what I can do only when I am young so decide to go to Tokyo to get into the school. I went there for 1 year and then started have interests in acting because my school friends were taking acting class. I got into an acting agent who represents a big Japanese actor, Hiroshi Tamaki. That was how I started my acting career, I was 23. After 1 year, my interests went back to modelingand thought I wanted to do both modeling and acting. Luckly, I was scouted by a huge Japanese modeling agency “Oscar Promotion”. I can speak English so they gave me auditions for big Hollywood films and TV shows. That made me feel wanting to go to Hollywood!

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think taking care of your mental health and knowing how to keep yourself motivated are the most important things when you want to be successful. We can’t do our best if you are depressed or feeling down. You will lose the chance. You do not have to be too hard on yourself and can ask somebody like your families or friends for help. What I do is taking a little break to get refreshed when I feel overwhelmed.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Sure! I am going to talk about when I was stuck in a situation where I was suffering from bulimia. I couldn’t control my appetite. I had a hard time to get back to my normal life since I had this problem. I couldn’t stop eating even if I was so full. I was struggling with getting back my usual eating habit. Noone understood my situation and even I remember someone said I am just easy on myself. So I could not ask anybody for help but I let myself not to think about going on a diet and eat what I want. As time went by, I finally started to eat normal. It was caused by so much pressure and stress which I was too hard on myself to lose my weight.
