We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful McKenna Majors. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with McKenna below.
McKenna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I (McKenna) started making our menu and each items name before coming up with a business name.. there weren’t any names we LOVED yet so the plan was to figure everything else out and then come back to it. In the beginning I started off naming the bowls after some of my favorite movies quotes.
One of the bowls name was “Killin’ me Smalls”
So one day I was naming everything off to my mom and she said “Wait… what was that one again? killin’ me smalls? oh my gosh.. “SMALLS” would actually be a cute name. ESPECIALLY since you and tanner are small people!!!” and it just kinda’ sorta’ made a whole lotta’ sense.
It was too funny to NOT.
So with that being said… we have two bowl sizes “small” & “smallest” and let me tell you… the small is not small.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I am McKenna! I love my family + friends, sunshine, traveling, animals, good food and photography.
We got into this industry by pure “YOLO” mentality and a love for good quality food.
I started making Acai bowls at home after a trip to Hawaii and thought I could do MORE with my love for food that’s not only pretty and tastes good but is also good FOR you!
We serve delish smoothie bowls and killer toast!
I believe what sets us apart is our gluten free/ dairy free/ soy free/ nut free/ granola!!
I am most proud that we JUST DID IT.. I’m proud we acted on a really good idea and jumped with both feet not knowing how the heck to run a business and here we are!!
I want our customers/followers to know that we will always pour love into this business, use the best quality ingredients and that we truly appreciate the support.
wouldn’t be here without y’all!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
for sure word of mouth and social media!!

Have you ever had to pivot?
Let me paint a picture for y’all really quick… we are in an extremely small trailer that two people max can fit in. When we first opened up Smalls we blended each order when ordered.
well, when you have a line of 20+ people, its extremely stressful, time consuming and people had to wait a while for their order.
It’s a 2 people show in a small trailer so we had to make a change, and do it before the next day rolled around.
So what we did: Immediately went to the restaurant store, got stainless steel containers for our freezer so we could scoop out each base as if it were ice cream, set our alarms for 3:15 a.m. and started prepping all of the smoothie bases each morning around 4 a.m.
So someone waiting on their order for 10-15 minutes got cut down to 5 minutes max AND its still fresh as can be!
win for us/ win for customer!
