We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful D. Jones . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with D. below.
Alright, D. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
Prior to embarking on the journey of D. Jones Reviews, my social media presence was virtually nonexistent. However, driven by my passion and fueled by a thirst for adventure, I made the decision to start D. Jones Reviews and now introducing the world to my fashion line, “D. Jones Collections” (www.djonescollections.com). Recognizing the magnitude of this decision, I am fully aware that I am diverging from the path I have been on over the past 21 years as a Soldier in the US Army and embracing a new chapter that entails substantial risk.
I am fully aware that success is far from guaranteed, but I am wholeheartedly hopeful and fervently praying that the calculated risks I have undertaken, coupled with unwavering dedication, will yield fruitful outcomes. How will these risks turn out in the end….I guess time will tell.

D. , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Of course! Well amongst other things, I review black indie films like the ones you see on Tubi or Amazon Prime Video as well as a fashion designer for my brand D. Jones Collections.
The passion of Black Indie films goes back to my high school days. I’ve always had a reverence for Black Indie films and wanted to turn that reverence into something more impactful. I wholeheartedly believe this community deserves fair analysis and critique of their art; but more importantly, I wanted to get to know these creators, their stories, their passions and then share that with any and everyone. Black Indie films are an integral part of the culture and it’s time we give them their flowers. Thus, the birth of D. Jones Reviews
In terms of fashion, I wanted to make a line that represents my demographic. I call us “The Young OG’s”. I believe after I turned 40, I was placed in a very advantageous position; young enough to still relate and want to be fly but also old enough to where comfort is paramount. Enter D. Jones Collections “Where Luxury and Leisure Meet.” D. Jones Collections is an athleisure brand that embodies the perfect balance between luxury and leisure.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m currently Active Duty in the U.S. Army and will be getting ready to retire soon so naturally the question now becomes “what’s next” for me? Do I play it safe and transition into a job that is similar to what I was doing in the Army? I have an Bachelor’s in Education so do I look into going into that field? Or do I take a huge risk and dive into the uncertain world of entrepreneurship byway of content creation and fashion design? The latter choice is precarious for sure, but it’s the route that has my heart…it’s indeed time to pivot.

Any advice for managing a team?
First, it’s important to build a culture of trust and transparency within your team. Encourage open communication, active listening, and constructive feedback, so that everyone feels heard and valued. When your team feels that they can trust you and each other, they are more likely to be invested in the team’s success and to have a positive attitude towards their work.
Secondly, recognize and celebrate the successes of your team. It’s easy to focus on what needs to be improved, but it’s equally important to acknowledge what’s working well. Celebrate milestones, recognize individual and team achievements, and show appreciation for hard work and dedication. This will help to build a sense of pride and ownership within your team, and to keep morale high.
Thirdly, empower your team to take ownership of their work. Give them the autonomy to make decisions and take risks, and provide them with the resources and support they need to succeed. When your team feels that they are trusted and respected, they are more likely to be motivated and engaged in their work.
Lastly, lead by example. As a leader, you set the tone for your team. Model the behavior that you want to see in your team. When you lead by example, you inspire your team to do the same.
Overall, managing a team and maintaining high morale requires a combination of strong leadership, effective communication, and a positive culture. By focusing on building trust, celebrating success, empowering your team, and leading by example, you can create a supportive and productive environment that fosters high morale and drives success.
