Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Barbara Kerford. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Barbara, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?

When thinking about defining moments on this path, I have a few that really brought me to where I am and the modalities I offer. The first notable moment was when my mom and I were trying to fix a glitch with a printer, my Reiki Master had recently been working with angels and had mentioned that Archangel Michael was specifically good with electronics, so out of patience with the printer I asked the Angel for help, the next time I did the exact same thing my mom and I had been doing for the better part of the hour, the printer worked! It was a moment that had me stop and realize that there really was something to asking the angels for support. Then a little while later after I’d been exploring working with angels, I was in a class when I overheard a woman talking about work she did with angels that was similar to Reiki, I didn’t want to interrupt her conversation, but wanted to ask her about the modality she taught–again a few moments later that woman came and sat right next to me, apparently ants had come into the area she had been sitting in and she chose to come sit next to me. She ended up becoming my IET teacher and introducing me to the woman who would teach me about past life regressions. There are so many other stories I have along my path of seeming coincidences that became defining moments, but it has taught me when I am open and willing to follow my inner guidance and have faith that I’ll be led to the next chapter it tends to lead me where I want to go.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Barbara Kerford, I own Aura Photo NM, and split my time between Albuquerque and San Antonio. The easiest way to describe my business is in three parts, aura photos, energy work, and classes.

With an aura photo session, you simply put your hand on our state-of-the-art sensor and it will read your energy and determine the colors in your auric field (the field of energy that surrounds your body). I then interpret the colors for you, depending on the placement the colors represent different aspects of your personality. Every aura photo comes with your printed picture, a pamphlet describing the colors, and a personal interpretation of your colors. In addition, clients can choose to get a chakra photo showing the energy levels in each of their chakras and/or a 14-page emailed report that goes into greater detail about the colors, chakras, and energy levels.

In addition to the aura photography, I am also trained in a variety of energy work modalities. My modalities include past and current life regressions, Reiki, Integrated Energy Therapy, and angel readings. Clients are able to go to my site to see a listing and description of the modalities I work in and chose their own, or I am happy to advise which modality I think best suits their needs. Most sessions can be done in person or remotely.

Finally, I also teach a variety of classes, most often I teach Reiki and Integrated Energy Therapy. Reiki is a hands-on Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual energy work and self-improvement that everyone can use. Integrated Energy Therapy® (IET) is an attunement-based hands-on energy therapy system that works with the angels to release built-up emotional imprints that stand in the way of living a fuller, happier life and replacing them with lighter positive emotions.

I love having such a varied business and being able to offer a variety of services to help my clients discover more about themselves and learn new skills. My favorite thing about my job is seeing peoples energy change before and after a session.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?

Trust your intuition. Working with metaphysical energy like Reiki isn’t something that is cut and dry, it uses a wider variety of senses that rely so much on trusting yourself and your inner knowing that what you are feeling is right. I stress this so much when I teach classes and use it myself when I work with clients. In sessions, I’ll check in with myself asking if this is what my client needs or if I need to go in another direction. It’s a skill that has served me in life as well.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Building a reputation as a business is so much about integrity and being genuine to who you are. My focus in my business is giving my clients the best possible experience I can, whether they have a 10-minute aura photo session with me, an hour-long energy work session or a day-long class. I want my clients and students to feel like they are better off than when they first walked through the door, striving for that over and over is what in time builds a solid reputation.
