We were lucky to catch up with Susie Inverso recently and have shared our conversation below.
Susie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’m currently working on a Calendar project! It’s a fundraising project to help Rescue Puppy Yoga. They rescue puppies from high-kill locations, bring them to Denver and the Springs, and hold them in foster homes until they are adopted. They socialize the puppies and gain visibility through weekly yoga classes!
We are searching for 12 dogs with magical, meant-to-be stories to feature in the 2024 Dogs of Colorado Calendar. Each accepted application will receive an EPIC outdoor photo session, a Featured month in the calendar, the opportunity to select the photo that will be used in the calendar, and an opportunity to purchase printed artwork of your pet from our custom artwork selection, and purchase your own copy of the calendar, as well as copies for your friends and family!
This is meaningful to me because this will help save so many lives, and bring so much joy to the puppies and the families who adopt them. The animals in my family have meant so much to me literally since the day I was born, I know others have felt this way, too.
Susie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I grew up in Chicago, I was an only child in a home filled with dogs, gerbils, bunnies, and guinea pigs! I spent 20 years photographing humans – weddings, portraits, actors and musicians, families. My husband and I moved to Lakewood in 2020 and I had to make a shift to make the photography career work with the new place and new pandemic world. I hired a business consultant and she discovered that what I have always wanted was to specialize in pets. She got me to realize that this was truly my calling! So I made the shift to photographing only pets and my life hasn’t been the same since!
Crimson Cat Studios offers Legacy In-studio sessions where we photograph on a simple background and Epic Outdoor sessions where we head to the mountains and find a beautiful vista or favorite trail. The Legacy session is perfect for smaller dogs, cats, and exotic pets or during the winter. The Epic sessions are perfect for Colorado Mountain Dogs and are scheduled in the spring, summer, and fall during sunset.
Within a day of your session we will have an Artwork Consultation where we will go through your photos, help you pick your favorites, and build beautiful wall art for your home.
This is what sets us apart – we don’t send you home with a link to an overwhelming online gallery. We will help you get those photos into your home so you can enjoy them everyday! The wall art pieces we offer are unique and built to last. You’ll always have them to cherish the pets that have graced your life and brought you such connection and joy.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
With art you can never stop growing! I love that I’m encouraged to try new things, give my photos new lighting and looks, and no two jobs are ever the same. I love that I can be outside for a shoot and have no control over some aspects of that – like how the sky reacts during sunset! And then the next be in the studio and have control over everything (except the subject!) and still have no idea how it will turn out. You can try for one idea and come out with something totally different!
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Business books are definitely not my jam! But there are 2 that I’ve really enjoyed reading – Building a Storybrand has helped me clarify my message especially on my website. Profit First has helped me pay myself and organize the businesses’ money.
