We recently connected with Connie Chi and have shared our conversation below.
Connie , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success is the ability to courageously step outside the box. It’s about taking risks and accepting imperfections or failures. My own journey of entrepreneurship is filled with taking calculated risks. Some were fruitful while others became teachable moments. It was through a lot of self reflection and reading all kinds of books that I started to realize that success is how we define it. There’s no finite definition, in fact as we continue to grow our views and beliefs about success will change.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my entrepreneurial journey because I was tired of working for someone else’s dreams, so I escaped the corporate life. My business today was created from a lot of different experiences some I loved some I didn’t. Our ethos at The Chi Group is that we only work with clients who have an inspirational story. A story that can impact culture and positively change lives. I believe that if our clients can inspire us, then in turn they can inspire the world. If you are going to spend time in your business why not spend it with people and projects that inspire you.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The most valuable lesson I learned was analysis paralysis is not forward momentum. Too often when we start a new business or project we overthink and over plan. As a result there is a lot of time wasted. I think we need to embrace being perfectly imperfect. Everyone starts a business at zero, zero customers, zero profits, and zero results. But as we grow, we learn to become great at our art. You will never be perfect, your business will never be perfect. Mistakes will happen and you can’t linger on it. If you spend way too much time trying to be perfect you will never build a business.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Integrity and professional courteous has been the two things that have helped me. A lot of people will forego both just to make a buck or turn a profit. The trick is to find a balance of integrity and profit, it’s definitely possible. Integrity will go a long way in any industry, it’s what makes you stand out from the competition.
