We were lucky to catch up with Brian Coggins Jr. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I hope that people will say that my stories gave them hope about humanity and that we are stronger together than apart, regardless of where we’re born or the ethnicity and gender we’re born with.

Brian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Yes. I’d like to say that I am a storyteller at heart. My love for storytelling came from my infatuation of movies which in the end pushed me toward reading more. I love the ability to create environments where my audiences can escape their surroundings and transport themselves to unthinkable and creative worlds.
I wanted to create worlds that my readers can go off to but also give them relatable characters that go through similar journeys of struggle, pain, and finding happiness. Finding your way in life.
Which is why one of my crowning achievements in life was holding my book for the first time and seeing all of the hard work, all of the sacrifices I made, all of the joy I found in writing had come true.

How’d you meet your business partner?
Funny story about that. We both were working at Sports Authority and I remember getting in an argument with my manager and Giancarlo, who’s my business partner, said ‘Huh. That guys pretty cool. I got to meet him.” And our mutual friend of ours named Marlon said to Giancarlo, “Oh that’s papa Coggins. I’ll introduce you.” And Giancarlo said, “No need.” And mushed Marlon in the face. Meanwhile, I was up at the register and I said to myself, “Why did Giancarlo just mush Marlon in the face?”
So throughout the day we chatted for a bit and after work, we spent 3 hours in the parking lot going over my book series and the ideas I had. And I’ll never forget what Giancarlo said to me that night. He said, “I don’t want to impose in any way, but would you mind if I could help you. I really think I can help you make this thing bigger than you can imagine.” And since that day Giancarlo has grown to not only be my brother, and my best friend, but the best decision I made as far as business in helping my idea grow.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Well, the way Giancarlo and I built our social media was by building a platform that everyone can enjoy and feel comfortable to be themselves on. The main focus of our social media is of course to promote our work but also to create a safe space for all creatives to come and share their background stories to the community.
Our advice for anyone that’s starting out and wanting to build up their social media platform is to just be genuine and to remember that you are your toughest critic. Do your best and have as much fun doing it and the rest will come in time.
