Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Isaac Mather. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Isaac, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
I wrote this song called Bury Myself, it’s about how difficult and uncomfortable it is for me to be out in public because of the way people make fun of my tics due to my Tourette Syndrome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyYFCY3U3NA

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Isaac Mather is a pop/rap artist, singer, songwriter, producer and audio engineer who uses his God given testimony to relate with and impact people through his music. Isaac didn’t have a “normal” childhood. He was bedridden at the age of 10 from complications associated with Lyme Disease and two Co-Infections. He was angry at God during this time, struggling to understand what good could come from such a trial. Over the next seven years, there were many ups and downs and Isaac began to struggle with a whole host of chronic health issues including; Tourette’s Syndrome, OCD, a brain inflammation, CIDP, and an Auto Immune Disorder.
A lot of mental health issues were brought on from this pain and depression was closer than ever to him. Isaac and his family sought every path to healing, including traveling to NYC for a week each month for 6 months for a very extreme treatment called Plasmapheresis. While receiving this treatment, a home nurse would come to Isaac’s house three days a week for 18 months to administer an additional treatment called IVIG. There were many days he would not be able to get out of bed, he began to lose the ability to sit in a chair because the pain in his legs was so bad. He had to bring his laptop into his bed to create music. Quitting seemed like an easy option. But the Lord had other plans.
Isaac daily lives with his Tourette’s; however, the Lord has brought much healing to his life both physically and mentally. Isaac has seen many doctors and has had test after test taken over the years, and it’s hard to say what exactly helped him. He started going to a health and wellness clinic back in 2018 and has been using Bio Energetic sprays which he noticed seemed to help immensely. The intense treatments Isaac was able to receive to aid in his healing would not have been possible without the Lord’s provision. He used many individuals, families, ministries, and churches who gave generously and prayed fervently. Isaac can now do everything he once used to be able to do before his sicknesses. He uses his story to create his music, and has amassed over 1.2 Million streams on Spotify alone. He even performed his music and shared his testimony in front of 13,000 people at Liberty University Convocation. He recently landed his first sync placement with AEW, which has been used for television. Isaac looks forward to what God has in store for the future!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to give people and escape from their struggles through my music, to let them know they are not alone. My music comes from a place of pain and past experiences. I feel that being vulnerable in my music relates with others who are hurting as well.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, seeing the responses from people who have listened to my music keeps me going.
There was a young man who recently told me he was about to take his own life, and right before he did, one of my songs came on, and God told him not to do it.
Having Tourette Syndrome is a difficult thing, but God has allowed me to use it as a good thing. I even have made many beats out of my Tourette Syndrome and released a tic sample pack for producers called “FantasTIC VOX Chops”. I also started a Tourette Syndrome merchandise line called “Don’t tic me off, I have Tourette’s.”
My song Bury Myself about my Tourette Syndrome has started to become an anthem for the Tourette community. Many people have reached out to me telling me how much they relate to the song. Parents of children with Tourette’s have even reached out and sent me videos of their kids listening to Bury Myself, and their tics were silent when listening to it. It is incredible to see what God is doing, and I’m so grateful and blown away. That’s why I do music, to help others.
