We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jeremiah McKibbins a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jeremiah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I believe it’s a great idea; especially starting out.
There are few things in life as precious as the love and support of those who surround us. Whether it’s family, friends, or even colleagues, these individuals play an essential role in our lives and help us navigate the ups and downs that come our way.
For me, my surroundings are everything. They are the people who make me laugh when I’m feeling down and who listen to my worries and concerns. They are the ones who celebrate my successes and help me pick up the pieces when things don’t go as planned
But it’s not just about what they do for me – it’s also about the impact they have on my life. They make me a better person, inspiring me to be kind, compassionate, and empathetic. They challenge me to grow, pushing me to be my best self and to pursue my dreams.
Above all, my surroundings remind me that I am not alone. They remind me that even on the darkest of days, there are people who love me, support me, and believe in me. And that is a truly priceless gift.
So if you’re ever feeling lost or alone, remember that your surroundings are there for you. Lean on them, cherish them, and never forget the impact they have on your life. For me, they are the reason I wake up every day with a smile on my face and a heart full of gratitude.
Jeremiah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Acting:
After being laid off from my sales job, I found myself searching for a deeper purpose. It was then that I stumbled upon an acting flier given to me by my father. I saw this as an opportunity to understand myself better, to work on my weaknesses, and to become a better human being.
For the past several years, I’ve been working in the acting industry, both in front of and behind the camera. It’s been an incredible journey filled with challenges and opportunities for growth. But more than just a job, acting has become a calling for me. It’s a way to connect with others, to tell inspiring stories, and to create characters that resonate with people from all walks of life.
Looking back on being laid off, I can’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to pursue my dreams, discover my true purpose, and grow as a person. I’ll always be proud of the work I’ve done and the person I’ve become, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes me next.
Photography:
In 2020, during the Covid pandemic, I bought a Canon Rebel T7i with the hope of becoming a full-time streamer. However, as everyone else seemed to have the same idea, I quickly became burnt out and my camera collected dust.
Months later, I decided to pick up the camera again, not for streaming but for photography. From the moment I took my first shot, I was hooked. Photography allowed me to express myself in a new way and capture special moments.
What kept me coming back was the impact photography had on people’s lives. The comments I received about making people look and feel good reminded me that my work was more than just a hobby. It was a way to bring joy and happiness to others. Photography has become my creative outlet, allowing me to connect with others and make a positive difference in their lives.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I am a big Robert Greene fan. This is a quote that I love and will help anyone:
“Understand: people will constantly attack you in life. One of their main weapons will be to instill in you doubts about yourself – your worth, your abilities, your potential. They will often disguise this as their objective opinion, but invariably it has a political purpose – they want to keep you down.”
Dealing with people who attack us can be one of the toughest challenges we face in life. These people will go to great lengths to make us doubt ourselves – our abilities, our worth, and our potential. They may disguise their attacks as objective opinions or constructive criticism, but their true intention is to bring us down.
But here’s the thing – we can’t let them win. We need to believe in ourselves and our abilities, even when others don’t. We need to surround ourselves with people who lift us up, support us, and believe in us.
So don’t give up. Keep pushing forward, no matter what. Remember that their doubts are their problem, not yours. You have the ability to achieve amazing things, so keep striving for your goals and never let anyone hold you back.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
You know what’s really cool? Finding a mentor. It’s like having a personal guide to help you navigate the twists and turns of life. A mentor is someone who can offer you advice, feedback, and support based on their own experiences. They can help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and develop a plan to achieve them. And the best part? They can provide you with accountability and motivation to stay on track and keep making progress.
Think about it: how many times have you wished you had someone to turn to for advice or guidance? Someone who has been there, done that, and can help you avoid common pitfalls and mistakes? That’s exactly what a mentor can do for you. They can help you unlock your potential and achieve things you never thought possible. So, if you’re looking to accelerate your personal and professional growth, finding a mentor might just be the coolest thing you can do for yourself.
