We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful LeAnn Vipperman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with LeAnn below.
LeAnn, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Not sure where to start but basically we have been married 22yrs now and have 9 kids. Number 10 will be here in September. In February of 2013 I started buying products from dōTERRA to help my daughter who has a lot of medical history. I got thrown into the business side when the products worked. I then gave up my house cleaning business to be home with the kids and do dōTERRA. To date, I’ve been with dōTERRA for 10yrs and building a business. In April 2015 my husband quit his job as a lineman. In May 2015 we bought an RV since we were already doing some traveling with my business. In June I approached my husband with the idea of living in our RV for a few months to save money and find a place we wanted to live. We sold everything and began fulltiming July 15th 2015. We fell in love with the lifestyle. We had 6 kids when we started. We have had 3 RV home births since then for a total of 9 kids. We are sharing content on social media now in addition to my dōTERRA business and we also have an RV cleaning business where we clean RV’s while we are at a campground. Our lifestyle is amazing, we have a huge community, our kids are happy. We get a lot of time together. The risk of selling it all to go fulltime has been amazing. The risk of giving up a stationary business for a mobile one has been amazing!
LeAnn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We are the Venturing Vippermans. LeAnn runs a dōTERRA business helping others find health solutions naturally as well as helping people clean up the products they use in their homes and on their bodies. She teaches people how to order and use the products themselves as well as how to learn what, when and how to use them. There is also a business opportunity that she coaches people in if they are interested in more than just wholesale products. Josh owns an RV cleaning business. As we travel around to campgrounds, he cleans RV’s and tow vehicles and teaches people how to keep their RV’s maintained. We have been in this lifestyle for a long time and we can offer great advice on living the lifestyle. We have also gotten into social media content creating. We want to share our lifestyle with others as well as how our big family lives. We have a lot of advice to offer others and love talking about what we do.
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
I started dōTERRA in February 2013 just to use the products. A couple of months later I enrolled my first person as a wholesale customer. A couple of months later I enrolled my second and then it snowballed after that. By the end of December I was making a decent side hustle income. Come March 2014, I replaced my income cleaning homes and decided to give up that business. I now have a few thousand people under me in dōTERRA. The key to building a business is relationships. We have built a business by building relationships with people. Network marketing won’t work if you don’t build a network. We have a huge network of people online and in person. Everywhere we go, we do campfires and get together with people we meet. Social media content has become another aspect of that. Along with a network you have to continue to grow and develop as a person. Be positive, encouraging, motivated, dependable. Do the work on yourself to grow into someone others look up to and relate to. Let others know they can count on you for knowledge and advice as well as an encouraging word when they need one.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Social media can be tricky. People want to get to know you. They want to relate to you. People also love controversy and people who are different. We are a large family living an alternative lifestyle. Find what is unique to you and your family and start sharing. Let people get to know you a bit. If you really want to grow fast, find a niche and post something controversial. Ask questions. Do videos in multiple parts. Curious it’s gets to people and they have to watch til the end. Also, use social media as a tool for work and don’t get sucked into consuming. Stay on just enough to respond and comment on other people’s content some but mostly post your own content and respond to comments. That part is huge! Respond to positive and negative comments to boost your content. Post often! You can’t go days between posts or you will lose momentum. People will come check your content often. They will unfollow if you don’t post new stuff. Set aside days to create a lot of different content then post it all online for others in bits and pieces. You can even change outfits and hairstyles during that time. Also, film every day stuff. People are fascinated by how others live. They want to see the day to day. Show them!
