Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Shweta Patel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Shweta, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
In March of 2022, 2 years after the onset of the pandemic; I stopped practicing in a traditional ” Brick and Mortar” office. Instead, I launched Gaya Wellness-Telemedicine Exclusively for Women’s Health. What started out as a way to continue providing care to my long term local patients-quickly developed into a bigger vision-to transform how women are taken care of.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a board certified and established OB/GYN in the Winter Garden community of Florida. I obtained my medical degree from my home state at SUNY Buffalo, NY. I was commissioned into the United States Navy and served for a total of 13 years as a medical officer. I moved to Florida 4 years ago and started a hospital owned practice where I was able to provide both obstetrical and gynecological care in person. With the onset of the pandemic, I had to rely on telemedicine services to ensure I could continue taking care of my patients, even if it would be with limitations. To my surprise, I was able to empower them more significantly over telemedicine because of the convenience and more time that could be given to them. They felt heard, understood, and clear on their choices and next steps. The level of connection and collaboration possible over telemedicine, was not feasible in the in person setting. Women’s Healthcare in it’s traditional form leaves many women feeling disempowered if not worse. If the anticipation of this doesn’t prevent women from seeking the care they need, then lack of time or insurance serve as barriers to entry. These obstacles, and more are addressed by Gaya Wellness. You can get the care you need, when you need it and from where ever is convenient for YOU. We also provide more services than the traditional OB/GYN office, including behavioral health, hormonal balance, weight loss, fertility planning, nutrition and fitness support, even relationship and success coaching. We will eventually also be providing virtual maternity care. By the time a woman drives to her appointment and completes her check in process, a Gaya Member can start their visit, share their concerns, ask questions, develop an action plan, get blood work and imaging orders, and have their prescriptions sent to their pharmacy. For the occasional times an in person visit is actually needed ( pap smear, office procedures, surgery), we collaborate with local practices and serve as your concierge healthcare team. We are confident that you will LOVE your experience. In fact, we guarantee it. Simply put- Gaya Wellness is convenient. It is progressive. It is anything but “traditional”. And that’s not a bad thing.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What really helped build my reputation was educating women on their health through seminars, talks, videos on Facebook and instagram, and being very approachable and accessible to my patient’s. Developing a connection with them- remembering the details about their families, their problems, their goals.
