We recently connected with Jeremiah Phillipe and have shared our conversation below.
Jeremiah, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
I started getting into photography when my brother and I were out on our flyfishing trips. When the fishing was slow, I’d take pictures of the beautiful country we were in. So, Fly Me A River became the name of my social media sites. As I improved and got better equipment, such as a drone, the name made even more sense, literally flying over a river!!

Jeremiah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I said in regards to my brand name, it all started from fishing trips. I branched out when I got my dslr camera and I started doing landscapes, cityscapes, portrait work, and began to attract local attention. I’ve been in a few art galleries featuring my photos in print. I’ve been on the news for wildlife photos. I recently quit my job at the Post office after 25 years of service. I want to work for myself and really focus on photography and cinematography. I’ll be using my drone for a few weddings this summer, and can’t wait to capture footage on my time, without a work schedule to interfere. I’m working on a music video for my girlfriend’s original song and hope to get more business as I grow and expand my portfolio. I also have an underwater camera and will start to utilize the options of the local rivers and lakes.

Have you ever had to pivot?
February 21st, 2023, I officially resigned from the Post office to pursue my dreams of working for myself. Scary as hell but my whole life I’ve always heard, “Follow your heart.” “Chase your dreams.’ We’ve all heard that, but how many people actually do? So I took the leap of faith and dipped a little into my retirement fund for a few new pieces of equipment. For better or for worse, I’m going to be doing what I enjoy in life, and that feels pretty damn good to be able to say!!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Quitting my job to pursue my passion means my goal and mission is to be able to provide a living by growing my business. Instead of a hobby, it will now be the full focus of my time and energy. The goal is to use my arsenal of camera equipment to make money and be able to travel while doing what I love. This doesn’t mean I’ll never work a regular job, but the ultimate goal is to not have to. As in anything, it can take a while to get noticed, or stand out from the crowd, but it is certainly fun to dive into the great wide open!
