We recently connected with Rachel Goodman and have shared our conversation below.
Rachel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful I think it takes persistence, being willing to work hard, and being able to have the mindset that you will do what it takes to reach your goal. To be successful it takes doing the hard things that not everyone is willing to do, and not giving up. Being successful looks different for everyone, but for me, it looked like a masters degree at age 23, and becoming a full time entrepreneur at the age of 25.
A story that illustrates my point is the story of how I got to be a full time Entrepreneur at the age of 25. After my undergrad, I went right into a fast pace masters degree program (it was a 3 year program crammed into a 1.5 year fast paced program). I graduated with my masters in couples therapy at age 23. That masters program was one of the hardest things I have ever done, and there were times I didn’t know if I had what it would take to get through it. But I didn’t give up and it paid off. I was one of the youngest people in that masters program!
One thing that kept me going was how much I believed in myself. To be successful, you can have others believe in you, but no matter what, you have to believe in yourself the most. When I put in my notice at my job right before I became a full time entrepreneur, I believed in myself more than anyone believe in me. Its YOU that has to keep YOU going to be successful in life and accomplish your dreams. You have to be your biggest motivator.
Rachel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi! my name is Rachel! I am 26 years old and I live in Scottsdale, Arizona. I have lived here my whole life! I am engaged and have been with my fiance for 7 years. We met in our undergrad and have been inseparable since! So I guess you can say, we are college sweethearts! We have a 4 year old german shepherd mix who we adore and take on lots of outdoor and nature adventures! I am the owner of a Dog Sitting business called Rachel Rover AZ, and a own a Couples & Women’s coaching/therapy business called Always Growing Coaching.
Let’s start with how I started my dog sitting business. I got into dog sitting in my undergrad in college purely out of being an animal lover. I have always had a passion for dogs, had many growing up, and had worked in a dog boarding facility for years. In college I was sick of working so much while also having 15 credit hours in school so I had the idea and I started watching dogs out of my house. That was about 5 years ago, and it blew up and became something big, amazing and unexpected. I now foster dogs, help out local dog rescues in Arizona, and still dogsit dogs! It is amazing to get to do what I love and have dogs around all the time. I call my house their “Fun home away from home.” I have dogs come over and sleep over night while their parents are out of town, and just come for daycare while their parents work during the day! I also throw dog birthday parties when one of my clients dogs has a birthday coming up. My vibe with the dogs is fun, and I want the dogs to know im like their cool, fun, part time aunt when they are away from home. It’s pretty cool to hang with dogs all day! We make fun videos and their parents can follow along on instagram while they are out of town too! My instagram is @rachelroveraz if you want to check it out.
Now onto my coaching business! After my undergrad I knew I wanted to help people, and I knew I loved learning about relationships. I had been in my own relationship a long time and wanted to know what differentiated the successful relationships from the not so successful ones. I decided to go get my masters degree, and at age 23, I graduated with my masters in couples therapy. Soon after that, I took 3 more certifications, and opened my Business called Always Growing Coaching. After going through ups and downs, and growing through my own challenges, along with my own relationship experiences, I noticed how people grow through the different phases of life, and knew that I wanted to name my business Always Growing. We are always growing and changing. All relationships, even the one with ourselves, have the ability to grow and change. I help dating, engaged, newlyweds and women gain better communication, stronger connection, and a successful foundation that will last a lifetime. Even when we don’t think we have anything to work on within ourselves or our relationship, we could always improve and learn new things to be better. My couples and women’s program has over 15+ research based relationship tools to help Dating, Engaged, Women, and Newlyweds grow their relationship and guaranteed gain better communication! I strongly believe in prevention, working on your relationship during a new stage, and working through the small issues in relationships before they become bigger. It is so amazing to help couples grow stronger, and I love what I do. Always Growing is just like it sounds. A safe space for couples and women to grow and strengthen their relationships. My instagram for coaching is @Raylationshipcoach.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my social media presence with time and consistency. I started @rachelroveraz years ago, and posted a lot. It takes interacting with other accounts, having a posting schedule, and staying consistent even on days you don’t want to. The biggest thing is also having a plan. My advice to others would be to have a posting schedule and a plan. How many days a week are you gonna post? Do you have certain types of posts on certain days? Do you talk about what services you offer? Do you have a set day to make content?
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
My best source of clients come from social media and referrals from other clients. Because I have been consistent on social media, and built a reputation on there, a lot of my new clients come from there. For my dog business, I built a reputation and became the dog girl. Lol. I get a lot of referrals from people because everyone basically knows me for dogs! For my other business I would say it is a little less referral based and little more social media based for clients. Because it’s a newer business than my dog one, advertising on social media is my best friend!
