We were lucky to catch up with Star Logan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Star , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Well I remember 13 years ago being in beauty school and knowing I wanted to be an entrepreneur. So for a vey long time I knew that was my path. Fast forward 7 years later, I was working for a major waxing brand and doing relatively well, the clients really loved me and I was very sought after. I would go home and talk to my son’s father about work and he would always say “They should call you The Vagina Whisperer”. I would always laugh but as time progressed and I was growing tired of the corporate world and I started actually putting more work into creating Thee Vagina Whisperer brand. I started seeing that there were not many black women who specialized in waxing and saw the need.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Star Logan, Licensed Esthetician and salon owner. Ive been licensed over 13 years now. My salon is called TheeVsuite, in Pasadena,ca and I also have a small studio in Oakland, ca where we specialize in Brazilian waxing, vajacials, vsteaming and facials. I also have my own all natural, handmade product line geared towards the intimate areas that aid with dark marks, ingrown hairs and hydration. At TheeVsuite, our goal is to make all our “V Sweeties” feel confident about themselves. I also love to create community and spaces where people of all walks of life can come together and enjoy life, learn, find likeminded individuals. I host entrepreneur workshops at the salon and mixers. Being able to create a safe welcoming environment to all women is most important to me and its my true passion, whether it be making a woman feel truly confident in my waxing room, or inspiring a new entrepreneur to follow their dream. This work brings me immense joy. I want all followers, fans and everyone alike to know when you become a V Sweetie, you will be taken care of.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I started literally from nothing. a little over 5 years ago my family too had took a very personal hit. I was forced to move back to my hometown of San Francisco with my at the time 5 year old son. I had to relocate my job and pretty much start all over. While preparing to leave my job all my clients would beg me to travel back to SoCal to service them and since I knew my goal was to at some point move back to LA I began traveling back and fourth between the San Francisco and Los Angeles every single week. I was taking flights, buses, trains, driving, whatever it took to make sure I was able to keep my clientele while simultaneously still building it. In that time I was living with my sister and saving my money. I was working an esthetics job and funding my business at the same time. I gave myself 1 year and set a goal of how much money I needed to get back to SoCal and be able to keep my business running smoothly. I achieved just that. I was extremely proud of this because I didn’t come from money and moving back home literally took every dollar I had. It was such a hard yet rewarding journey where I learned a lot about discipline and resilience.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy has been to always be my authentic self. I never pretend to be someone I’m not and I’m not afraid to be vulnerable. I genuinely think the V sweeties appreciate that. I can relate on all levels and I share my trials and tribulations so that people understand they are not alone on this journey. Being in the beauty industry you truly are also a therapist, people share some of their deepest secrets with me and im here to tell you, I’ve made mistakes as well, I’ve done the wrong things in life before. I’m human and have no problem sharing that. It has most certainly helped me in my business.
