We recently connected with REZZIES and have shared our conversation below.
REZZIES, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Our studio has been our biggest ongoing project for the last couple of years. When the pandemic hit we had an album’s worth of material written and nowhere to record it. With no shows on the horizon, we all eventually decided to pick different corners of the recording process to learn, and started gathering gear.
We hit a lot of potholes on our first self-tracked album. There were a lot of hours on forums pulling our hair out trying to figure out the right way to google things. We finally made it to the finish line though, and got to release our little bastard first born into the world.
We’re half way through our second album now and things are running a lot smoother. We’re able to actually experiment and dial things in now that we aren’t banging rocks together.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We all sort of fell into music from different directions; some of us church, some school and local bands. We initially came together as The Reservoirs as a couple of our other bands were coming to an end. It was Sean, Mike, and David at the beginning with our friend Eddie on bass, who eventually went off to college and was replaced by Jack, Sean’s brother. This last year we added a fifth member Matthias, who’s been our Swiss army knife, so that Jack could move over to keys.
We call our sound COW FUNK. We’re all big 70s rock nerds, but our influences range from Mojo Nixon and John Prine, to Prince and Ween, to Elton John and Bill Withers. We like connecting with the crowd by joking around between songs. By creating an underdog element we try to evangelize fans of the local punk and psych-rock scene into born-again country fans.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We’ve been through the ringer as far as gigging goes. From 2am sets in the freezing cold with no audience, to a sound guy putting our opener in a headlock; We’ve kept the train rollin’. We all work side jobs with different schedules but we still manage to balance performing, practicing, recording, and writing new music. We’re coming up on 6 years with no signs of slowin’ down!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
“God ain’t making no more land, so ya better buy some while ya can” -Tony Soprano
We’re working towards having our own multi-functional creative space where we can throw shows, record bands, film videos, and call each other the stupidest things we can think of. Currently we make good use out of the space we have, but with a bigger base of operations we could make our next moves toward world domination.
