We recently connected with Jennifer Solis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I moved to Manassas Virginia in 2014 from NY, where I studied proffesional baking arts. I knew I wanna to start my own business and I offered my baked goods to many restaurants in the area, but at the same time I had the opportunity to start selling at City of Manassas Farmers Market on saturdays and Fairfax Farmers Market on sundays. It was a totally new experience for me, I was so excited to start sharing my culture and flavors from Peru with other people. So I started by selling peruvian style empanadas and desserts back in 2016. I have been selling at Manassas farmers market for 7 years now. Customers loved our products and their support help us expand our business into a brick and mortar location also in the city of Manassas in 2019. Before our 1st year anniversary we had to face a terrible pandemic, but even though we still had the support from our loyal customers, which kept us in business to survive this hard time. We currently sell at our location from tuesday to sundays, and at City of Manassas Farmers Market every saturday and at Dale City Farmers Market every Sunday. We also offer catering, custom cakes and delivery via doordash. We are very thankful and cant wait to bring new and delicious desserts, sandwiches and treat to our customers.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I started baking from my home inspected kitchen until I was able to open my 1st store front.
Baking compare to cooking, its very exact recipes. Our staff is well trained to follow recipes. We consider that each product is unique and we put special love and care when making it.
We make several trials before putting a new product for sale, we play around with recipes until we get the perfect one. And then we follow it exactly to make sure we have a consistent flavor and quality.
Of course to get to this point we had thrown away a lot when we had failures at making recipes. Just a small mistake like confusing baking powder for baking soda, or whipping eggwhites on a wet bowl. Can make a huge difference and ruin a product.
At Dolce amore sweets we provide not only delicious products but high quality and fresh ones all the time.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
My husband and I have been working really hard to offer our customers the best product. When we had to face a pandemic just months away from our grand openning. We were scared about closing it, Thanks God we didnt have to close and we were able to offer delivery and curbside options to keep our business running during this difficult time. To be resilience its the key to continue. Hard work, early morning, long days and all the effort pays back. We continue the hard work and keep moving forward.
