We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sandra Henry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sandra , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
One of the biggest risks that I have taken was quitting my job to pursue my passion in doing hair. I didn’t know where it would take me but i knew i didn’t want to work for anyone ever again. It was more like a leap of faith honestly, I had a plan and I was not letting nobody distract me. It’s all working out thanks to God I never went back!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Sandra AKA TOOKIIE, I was born in CAP-HAITIAN and raised in Florida. From a young age I just knew I was born to be a star. Being an immigrant from Haiti, I had to get adjusted with the ways of living in the states. Life became very hard being a single BLACK mother of two but i was determined to make it. I’ve always had a passion for hair so I decided to go to school and pursue my career, Within a year of graduating college I opened my first salon suite with the help and support of my wonderful husband Gregory. Within the next year I opened a bigger suite that held 5 ladies. In the midst of hard work and dedication, I received an amazing opportunity from Sukihana to do her hair. I am forever thankful for my girl Suki because she has opened many doors for me. I also appreciate my girl Shay Johnson as well for the amazing opportunity she has provided me with. Fast forward to today I am a full service salon owner with 10 amazing ladies, social media influencer, podcast creator & YouTuber. I am also thankful to my friends and family for always being in my corner and believing in me. My advice to anyone that is trying to pursue their dreams do not get distracted, do not look at what other people have & focus on you and God.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
The best advice that I can give to somebody that’s managing a team is to listen to your team, build with your team, put yourself in their position, compromise, be open to new ideas, and understanding the difference between friendship and business. Remember to always communicate with each other! Communication is vital for maintaining good relations in your team.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Well, this is a funny story I actually met my business partner in the club lol yes the club he is now my husband. He has always been supportive of anything I wanted to do and I am so grateful for him.
