Alright, Shawntae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

I am an independent author of three published books and an entrepreneur. I am currently in the process of building my business. I learned how to write by adequately researching the topics I wrote about and through trial and error. I could have begun connecting with other independent authors and entrepreneurs in order to gain insightful information from their experiences. Experience is the best teacher. As an independent author and entrepreneur, learning my craft is an essential skill, and exercising patience throughout the journey is a must. Success does not happen overnight. It is a work in progress. There were not many obstacles that stood in my way of learning because I set aside ample time weekly to learn more about my writing craft, and I am still learning. The more you are willing to learn, the more you grow and are afforded various opportunities based on your knowledge and skill set.

Hello, my name is Shawntae Sneed. I am married with two wonderful children who are both adults. I also have a precious grandson. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I currently live in Copperas Cove, Texas, where my husband retired from the U.S. Army. I have worked with children for over 17 years. I started my journey of working with children at Daycare Centers located on Military Installations, and now I work at an Elementary School as a Paraprofessional. I am currently working on my degree to become a full-time teacher. In addition to working with children, I am a Certified Personal Trainer, Certified Fitness Instructor, Author, and Entrepreneur. I truly believe in reaching my full potential in life, and the sky is the limit. I started creating short stories and poetry in my diary as a young girl because purposeful writing is my passion. I am currently the author of three books. The backstory of why I began writing books began with a prophetic word spoken by my daughter. On one occasion, my daughter and I were in Walmart looking at books, and she said very vividly, “One day, your book is going to be on the shelf.” Before this time, I had never thought about authoring a book, but her words sparked a fire within me that could not be contained. I knew that becoming a published author was a part of my destiny, and I wanted to fulfill it. My authorship journey began in January 2020. I write inspirational books that inspire people to overcome obstacles, boost their self-esteem, and increase their faith. I utilize my words as a tool that motivates people to become the best version of themselves. My books will help people maintain a positive outlook on life, despite negative situations. All of my books are filled with the power of positivity. I have two adult books and one children’s book. Two of my books were published in 2021 and one of my books was published in 2022. The first book I published is entitled, “You Are a Work in Progress”, which is a 21-day interactive workbook for daily inspiration and journaling. The second book I published is entitled, “Igniting Your Inner Fire”, which is a faith-based memoir filled with inspirational snippets about my life and scriptures that coincide with the short stories. The third book I published is entitled, “Activate Your Inner Power”, which is Affirmations and Inspirations for Children who are ages 8-14. I operate in a spirit of excellence that sets me apart from others. I consistently reach out to my customers and ask for constructive feedback to improve my craft. I believe in building a business that offers quality products, and I am constantly looking for ways to improve my clientele. I am looking forward to expanding my brand in the near future. I utilize my creativity to create empowerment tools for others. When I empower people, I am empowering myself in the process. I am most proud of overcoming obstacles in my life and turning my pain into purpose. The name of my business is called Booked for Purpose. I created this title because I am purposeful and powerful, and my clients are also. When I was growing up, many people did not believe in me, but I believed in myself. I did not allow negativity to stop me from reaching my goals. It inspired me to reach higher and embrace the power that is within me. I recently began creating video reels on Facebook to encourage people who are struggling with mental health issues. My videos are entitled “Mental Mending.” I want to be that positive voice that can make a difference in the lives of others and help steer them in the right direction when they feel hopeless and need to be encouraged. I believe my life’s purpose is to inspire others, and I find joy in the journey. I believe in purposeful living and making the most of each day. It is not about perfection, but progression. I am always willing to learn, and I embrace a growth mindset. I want to leave a legacy, not just a memory.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

There are many stories in my journey that illustrate resilience. In the process of my writing journey, there were many times I wanted to give up, but I kept on going. I had several obstacles to overcome, but it was all worth it. Through my perseverance, I became a published author who can help others edit and publish their books.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I built my presence on social media by consistently marketing my products. The key to building your audience on social media is marketing, consistently creating content about your products, and connecting with other experienced entrepreneurs. Networking is the key to building a successful business. When we connect with others, creative ideas are manifested within our conversations. It is not about one dominating the other, but together we can win.
