We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Miranda Webster a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Miranda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
My urge to abandon mediocrity and establish financial freedom emerged when the pandemic hit, and I was left without a job while still in undergrad. As a result of unemployment, I became inspired to chase purpose since I had a lot of free time on my hands that allowed my thoughts to run wild. Since I had more time to reflect, I questioned if I had chosen the right field to study after realizing I would eventually hit an income cap within working in that industry. I figured since life had completely slowed me down, I would really lean into figuring out my future and start trying new things since I had a couple of months left before I was due to graduate college.
The idea of starting a skincare line came after I realized how frequently I got complimented on my skin paired with the preexisting idea of always wanting to be an entrepreneur. So, I made up my mind and went after it. I figured it would be an easy business model because it was already an interest of mine and already a part of my everyday life. As I started the business, I naturally was practicing more skincare as I was testing the products, but I began to notice something about myself. My face was getting all of the attention and my body was getting ignored. A simple task such applying lotion after a shower to moisturize my skin somehow felt like a chore. I had carried that behavior for years without noticing until one day, I found myself lathering lotion all over myself right before I headed out the door to go spend the night with a guy. At that moment I had my very own wake up call, reality check, come to Jesus, whatever you want to call it. I was actually ashamed. Ashamed that I couldn’t do something for me that I would do for another person. Ashamed that I only took care of myself for the benefit of someone else. Ashamed that I had been faced with the idea that I lacked self-love. That one hurt the most, but they say the truth hurts, right? From that day forward, I knew some things needed to change about how I took care of myself. I intentionally increased my self-care practices and incorporated it into the brand.
I was internally still trying to process the fact that I had just proved to myself that I didn’t love myself like I thought I did or like I should have. That was a hard pill to swallow but building my skincare business with self-care incorporated into it really helped me start my own self-love journey. It started surface level but eventually got deeper and led me to questioning myself overall. I went beyond the physical practices and really started to question why I didn’t love myself and ended up realizing that I didn’t truly know myself. Another very hard pill to swallow. Here I am, senior year of undergraduate realizing that I don’t know who I am. That started a complete shift in my life where from that point forward, I needed to know who I was for the sake of my career choice and my life’s purpose. That’s where my personal development journey intensified.
I abandoned a lot of what I knew (because that obviously hadn’t gotten me far) and treated my life like it was a newborn. Everything needed to be established so, in each category of my life, I felt confident in who I was becoming. This was a fun, uncomfortable, and insightful experience but as a result, I fell in love with it. As I watched myself redefine my life and become a completely new person by building my life, I became passionate about personal development. I was Bob the Builder of my life as it became clear to me that if I didn’t love the life I was given, I could create a life I loved. I then realized, just like myself, anybody could do it! It’s a hard and uncomfortable journey to abandon everything you know and redefine your life so I identified myself as someone who will help others do it. I had just done it myself and seen how on my own, with no drastic measures, I changed my life forever. Everyone isn’t faced with the opportunity of life slowing them down and making them face their true self, so that’s what I’m here for. As a Certified Life Coach, I specialized in Self Development because I am my own testimony. It became clear to me that this is my assignment, and I was created to do this. I don’t want to just change my life; I want to tell people my story and my experiences and help them change their lives too once they’ve made the commitment to themselves.
I house two brands under my name: Blossom Skinn is my skincare line that promotes self-care as it pertains to mental health, reminding you to take care of yourself internally and externally. The Mastermind Lifestyle offers Life Coaching services to assist with personal development and help people turn inwardly to strengthen their relationship with themselves so that they can live meaningful, intentional, and purposeful lives.
Everywhere you go, you hear, see, or know somebody that doesn’t love their life. They hate their job, they’re not happy with their physical appearance, they are always busy because of work, they can’t stay organized because of the kids, they don’t have enough money, they’re lonely, they have a chronic illness, etc. We all know at least one, but every single one has the ability to change their own lives. From growing up near poverty to realizing that mental health isn’t a topic of discussion in most households, especially black, I learned that being intentional about the life you want makes a world of a difference.
No one ever told us life would be fair, but also no one ever told us it would be unfair. We create our own luck with the decisions we make in life. We are quite frankly, the authors of our own lives. I’m here to help people break out of the unfavorable lives that are given to them that they have accepted and instead, build lives they love!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a college graduate with a bachelor’s in hospitality & Tourism Management. I am a small business owner and a Certified Life Coach. My business is overall a self-care brand that reminds you to take care of yourself internally and externally with my natural skin care products and the resources and tools provided. I noticed a large number of people live life in a rush or frantically, leaving them no time to really get in tune with themselves and savor life, as short as it is. I decided to specialize in personal development once I took the time to redefine my own life and become a Life Coach so I can help others do the same. I help people transform their average, mediocre, and meaningless lifestyles to exciting and purposeful lives that have meaning.
What sets me apart from others is that my main motive is to get as many people as possible to realize that you can hack life once you understand everything starts with your relationship with yourself. Once you master you, life becomes more manageable, no matter the obstacle. If more people truly knew themselves and lived more favorable lives as result, then in return, the world becomes a better place one person at a time.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was fresh out of college, I was working in a well-respected position within my industry, gaining great experience. However, I was severely underpaid, and my mental health was the poorest it had ever been. That was enough reason for me to decide to step down from my position into a part-time position that would allow me to focus on growing my business. That was a huge eye-opening experience that motivated me to really go hard and get on my entrepreneur grind to begin to create and work towards the life I was dreaming of for myself. Thankfully, I was blessed to have my dad supporting me financially so I could work part-time. This was a huge sacrifice for me, but I got clear on the lifestyle I wanted, stopped playing with my potential, and started planting seeds. I knew the beginning would be hard and I wouldn’t have any ROI but I didn’t let that discourage me. I kept my end goal and greater purpose of my life in mind and kept working despite what the process looked like.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was initially brainstorming for Blossom Skinn, I had decided that I would be handmaking my products and I would bring awareness to ingredients. My main message behind the brand started as me trying to communicate to people the importance of turning products over and reading ingredient lists. I could easily be intentional and minimize my ingredients by personally selecting the ingredients and combining them to create the final product. Well, things don’t always go as planned. Not long after, I started realizing how tedious handmaking skincare products in my kitchen were and I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demand of the business doing it all on my own while still working part-time. So, I eventually decided to switch to private label products but that would take away the full control I had over my ingredients.
I was thrown a huge curveball having to completely change the messaging behind my newly established brand. Today, we still are mindful of ingredients as we have chosen a manufacturer that uses natural, vegan, and organic ingredients. My natural life occurrences were able to mesh with the brand and create even stronger messaging that I can confidently communicate and allow me to feel sure about the greater purpose of the brand.
