We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chante Ramsey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chante, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a client that you appreciate them?
The best thing that you can do for your client is to simply listen to them. Before I deep dive into a consultation or coach session, we begin by giving the client the mic to share out their current state, release any frustration, celebrate their wins, and reflect on their observations. This moment of time gives them space to breathe and get into a comfortable mindset in advance of the session. It is a small wonder what 10 minutes can do to help a client feel appreciated, valued, and acknowledged – their voice and feelings matter. This approach is the heart of my client engagement and results in clients seeking to schedule future sessions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For the past 20 years, I’ve dedicated my professional life to building my expertise in financial management and business operations including leading my own photography business. I pivoted my background into establishing my consulting business, Uplift 2 Thrive, to share best practices, offer my supportive ear and share leadership development techniques with BIPOC brand leaders who strive to make an impact in their community and industry. The life of a brand leader is a lonely one whereas they are the ones worrying at night about how to sustain their business, expand their relevancy in the industry and ensure that their marketing strategy reflects the desired results. My firm serves as a vital resource to these leaders and builds up their confidence to never give up on their vision no matter how difficult it can be, It warms my heart to see clients thrive after our session or two implementing the action steps that they needed to complete resulting in their growth, new ideas, improved clients connections and so forth.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My typical client is a visionary with unbelievable inner strength and a story to tell. The best method that has been working in my new client connections has been by word of mouth from other clients and new clients seeing the testimonials from my existing clients sharing their experience working with my firm. Your reputation is what drives people to you then how you make them feel as well as how you deliver your services will convince them to return.
Any advice for managing a team?
While my firm’s team is pretty small, I have managed several teams in my professional work and the key element to sustaining a team in which its members share a bond is that you have to be your team’s cheerleader. You have to champion your brand’s vision so that they share a strong connection to the brand’s “why”. You have to be transparent in your communication to them about the state of the brand and future growth for them to stay invested. Lastly, you have to be an effective leader in making tough decisions, creating a team culture, and establishing an operations framework giving them direction and purpose.
