We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tiffany Dodson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tiffany, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I’ve been lucky enough to work on so many amazing projects. The most recent is a film called Retro Freaks (2022). I play the villain and the character is silent mostly. It was one of my favorite roles because of the cast and crew. Everyone just worked so well together – and it was almost completely volunteer based so everyone was really there because they truly love making movies.
That’s what it’s all about. Making movies with the people you love.

Tiffany, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have been working professionally as an actor for years but started when I was about 6 years old. The “dream” was never shaken and I’m still as in love with it now as I was so long ago.
Lately, I’ve been working a lot behind the camera too. It’s been some of the best experiences and has actually helped me out tremendously in front of the camera. Once you really see just how everything works, it gives you a deeper appreciation for everyone’s job.
I’m so proud of how far I’ve come. I still have a long long way to go but I feel good in where I’m at currently. My crew and I are currently working on Retro Freaks II and start production soon!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Making movies in specific, I think we could give more chances and funding to small indie film ideas. It’s been proven so many times that these smaller films can do so well at the box office! I hear so many creative ideas and just hope that artist will keep creating and not get discouraged. Work with what you got for now and keep pushing for something greater and greater.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
It’s not personal. Most of what happens to actors isn’t personal. I’m wired now that if something doesn’t go the way I would’ve liked, it’s for a reason. That role was meant for who got it- it could’ve been anything and you have to learn to be ok with yourself. Movies are going to be made with or without you so it’s good to take every “loss” easily. There are plenty of other roles out there.
