We recently connected with Kayla Tugman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents always supported my interests and dreams. They would see I had an interest in something and would always help to nurture that. Even as a young child, I remember loving anything make-up, hair, & nails. I often talk about how my mom threw me a ‘Spa’ themed birthday party at 8 years old or how my grandma let me ‘blow-out’ her hair at 10 although I had no idea what I was doing. Both of my parents always allowed me the freedom to express myself while helping to light the path for me to reach my dreams.
Kayla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Kayla Tugman. I am a Master Aesthetician in Southlake, TX. I have been in the beauty industry for 9+ years. I advanced my career in aesthetics by attending many seminars and obtaining certifications including in Holistic esthetics, Lymphatic facial massage technique, and so much more. I help clients feel and look their best with an array of beauty services including Lash & brow styling, Skincare, & body treatments. I take the holistic- medical approach with my clients and get to know external, internal, & emotional factors that can contribute to common skin concerns and overall wellness.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I have seen my clients go through so many different phases of life- we’ve laughed, cried, & bonded together. Seeing clients going through a rough divorce, having a baby, attending funerals for a loved one, and so much more. I have realized it isn’t just about the treatment, it is about the relationships that you come to form with your clients. Building relationships, trust, & compassion for those in the treatment room is so important.
How’d you meet your business partner?
Lesli Rodgers is my business partner, she is an amazing esthetician and even better human being. I am so grateful for our friendship! We met at a different Spa where she was renting a room while she was setting up her own space. We started swapping facials and she was always so complementing of my work and encouraging. I think we have a slight telepathic connection as I was hoping she would invite me to work with her and she was thinking the same thing. I started with her at Emerald Lux Spa right before her maternity leave and have loved every second of it ! I feel so fortunate to work along side her.
