We recently connected with Chatsoni Brooks and have shared our conversation below.
Chatsoni, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
From bookkeeper to website strategist:
Growing up with two entrepreneurial parents, I always knew I wanted to run my own business and be my own boss.
So, shortly after graduating high school, I studied marketing and entrepreneurship and earned my degree in Accounting & Business. I also enrolled in an online course to start my own virtual bookkeeping business during this time. (It seemed like a no-brainer since I had a degree in accounting.)
While building my bookkeeping business, I discovered a passion for marketing – specifically, web design.
It turned out that I was pretty good at it!
After sharing the new website I built with other students in the community, others started asking me for help getting their new bookkeeping businesses online.
That’s when I decided that instead of launching a bookkeeping business, I would dedicate my energy to helping others launch their virtual bookkeeping businesses instead!
I did my first few projects for free to get experience and build reviews. Then gradually, with each new website I built, I became more efficient, increased my rates, and invested in tools and training to keep improving and helping bookkeepers make a great online first impression.
Nearly four years later, I confidently charge premium prices, have a proven process, and have glowing testimonials from bookkeepers I’ve helped.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I specialize in helping virtual bookkeepers attract their dream clients online without the tech overwhelm by launching and managing professional websites.
Building and managing your own website can be a total time (and joy!) suck, wasting countless hours and headaches.
I offer:
– website support for bookkeepers who feel confused or frustrated while editing their websites.
– website launch plans for bookkeepers ready to launch a website to attract their dream clients but too busy to do it themselves.
– website success plans for bookkeepers ready to boost their existing website’s performance and increase the chances of attracting dream clients from Google.
While many website professionals offer these services, what sets me apart
1. Specialization – I work exclusively with bookkeepers and accountants and have a background in the industry.
2. Efficiency – I can deliver results quickly because I specialize in this industry.
3. Relatability – I’m a wife and mom first – a business owner second. I built my business while pregnant and raising children so I can relate to my clients personally and understand the unique challenges of building a business from the ground up while running a household.
4. Paying it forward – I’m most proud that each website I build helps support mothers and babies.
Every month, a portion of my revenue supports helping mothers and babies. Clients can feel good about our partnership, knowing part of their investment will support mothers suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). This debilitating and potentially life-threatening pregnancy disease affects over 6 million women globally.
As an HG survivor, I’m passionate about helping grow support, research, advocacy, and education programs to help give mothers and babies a healthier future.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been Facebook.
Once I decided to work exclusively with bookkeepers and accountants, I created my own Facebook group, Website Strategy and Support for Virtual Bookkeepers, (https://www.facebook.com/groups/marketingforbookkeepers). It’s at the heart of what I do.
In the group, I give away as much website support as I can for as little as I can. It reduces the frustration and tech overwhelm for bookkeepers who can’t afford to invest in my website services yet.
By providing value for free, I became the “go-to” for website support and get referrals regularly.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
In addition to the Facebook community, I keep in touch with my existing and potential clients through email marketing. I share a newsletter every Friday with marketing motivation and encourage 1:1 conversations to get to know my audience better and offer personalized support.
While it’s a long-term strategy, I believe in the power of building and nurturing meaningful relationships.
