Samantha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?

I feel as though business owners get somewhat offended when friends & family don’t support their businesses but what I’ve learned is that no one in your circle is obligated to purchase anything from you. You have to learn to not take it personal.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I started Chic Society Magazine in November of 2015. Chic is an acronym for Create Help Inspire Change. I wanted to create a space where small business owners could advertise without hurting their pockets. I am most proud of winning favourite magazine of 2017. I won that award in Atlanta after only being in business for two years. It was a bittersweet moment and it changed the course of my career.

Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?

When Covid hit I had to home school my children as well as I just moved 1200 miles to a new city and state a few months before. I was all over the place trying to adjust and had to put the magazine on hold. It was frustrating but some how I managed to push through it and ended up having a successful relaunch.

How’d you meet your business partner?

I met Sabrina a few weeks after the relaunch of the magazine. She came to me to book her client for a cover feature & we’ve been together every since. It wasn’t easy at first working with someone else because I was used to doing things my way and calling the shots but working with Sabrina has taught me that it’s okay to step aside and let someone else handle the work load.
