We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominique Jamison-Jones. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominique below.
Dominique, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
VISION. An idea that expresses my unique individualism and was created to share with the world. MOTIVATION. There is nothing like being your own boss and designing lifetime memories as you exude confidence and friendliness that gently inspires others to see and respect your leadership. DETERMINATION. Understanding the need to be flexible and believing in myself to move forward weathering storms through changing and difficult situations. PRIORITIZING VALUES. Always staying focused, setting goals and thanking God for my gift and my supporters for sharing in my successes. STONEDREAMERCAKES lives and dies with me. It is my happy, my inspiration, my wonderful world of color and glitter, a delightful place giving you that Sweet Treat Your Reality Needs!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m your cosplay, glitter, colorful baker, cake designer Dominique Jamison-Jones from Brooklyn NY. “In life we can’t control everything but we can grow stronger and overcome our obstacles.” This statement has been apart of my life and business career. Due to circumstances with my health including five different life changing surgeries and years of chronic pain, I always had to put my passion as a cake designer on the back burner. But, through all my trails, I wasn’t or haven’t given up on my dreams because “No Matter Your Reality – Make Your Dreams Come True”. After years of healing and getting stronger I’m here and committed to make clients cake dreams become reality and one day open my own dessert truck and catering hall!
StoneDreamersCakes offer custom design cakes, cupcakes, browines, cheesecakes cake cups, cake push pops, funnel cakes and other sweet desserts! All item receive our signature edible glitter stamp of approval! Because glitter is pure happiness and fun and so should be your treats.
As being the sole proprietor of the business there’s so many things I want to do but most importantly bring out more awareness to the anime community with cosplay through cakes. I would consider myself otaku :Japanese word that describes people with consuming interests, particularly in anime. Due to my love for the anime culture I created a segment call #CosplayandCakes which combines those two. Cosplay: is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game. It’s personal important to create this to express to everyone no matter your race, sex, gender or anything you can be yourself and enjoy things that aren’t the socials norm plus everyone love sweets which make it 10 times better, to eat and enjoy your favorite characters!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing StoneDreamersCakes clientele is pop up shops and following uo ! A pop-up shop is a temporary retail space that is typically used to introduce a new product line, test a new market or generate awareness for a product or cause. Due to this method I’m able to met and talk to so many different clients and receive their feedback on the dessert products and get to know the person as well. These perosnal connects and communicate are the reason the clientele to grow. Due to living in the technology Era, I go a bit further taking personal information and emailing/mailing the client as a follow up thanking and Appreciating their feedback and offering coupons for their next order.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Funding StoneDreamersCakes has been a roller coaster but it’s such enjoyable ride! Working in the Hospitality industry for over 15 years has been one of the ways of funding the capital of the business. In the beginning I honestly had no idea what I was doing but I made a plan, each week from my pay check save $100 and that will go into building capital to buy supplies, equipment, pay for licensing, website, and any other expenses. As I start to grow more and want to expand I was able to receive a business grant and small business loan to find a commercial kitchen to expand StoneDreamersCakes.
