We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Glo Denise. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Glo below.
Glo, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
It’s my prayer that my legacy will be world changing., not necessarily materialistic. My purpose for writing and creating the things that I do are to bring awareness to the lack of love and acceptance that there is in the world. I’m my opinion, the world is full of people who choose to point out everyone else’s flaws so that they don’t have to accept their own. My dream is to create narratives that show the humanity of all sorts of people in an effort to demonstrate that, at the ends of the day, we’re all human. We all have our own personal paths that we must take in order to become who were meant to be. For some, the path may not be up to par to society’s standards, but it’s our personal path to walk. One of my favorite quotes is from The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and I, I took the road less traveled by, and that had made all the difference.” This has always stuck with me because it helped me to see me. And with that, I want my legacy to be one that impacts others by showing them that, even though their path may be less traveled, it’s still okay to take the risk and press forward being exactly who they are, regardless of what society says about them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am a writer, director, and producer located in Dallas, TX. I have been writing since I learned how to write, having my first poem published in Kindergarten. I have degrees in business management, psychology, and biblical studies. Education has always been important to me, as I understand that learning is a life-long process. I do my best to learn not only from books, but from the people around me, the lessons of my own personal life, and the experiences of my family and friends.
I am most proud of having family and friends who love and support me for who I am. Being a lesbian woman of color, things are not always easy. Global persecution in the world often brings about fear. But I am proud to stand on the shoulders of some amazing people who encourage and support everything I do, even if they don’t understand it.
I face challenges in not always being able to get my works off of the ground when I want them to fly (due to lack of resources or time in some cases), but my support system never allows me to get down on myself. It’s important to surround yourself with people that genuinely want the best for you and motivate you to get there, even at your lowest moments.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson that I’ve had to unlearn is that I have to be a cookie cutter image of who I am. For years, I strived to be someone that I wasn’t and it was hard accepting that version of myself. It was fake and uncomfortable. One thing I know about God, when He’s ready for you to evolve, He’ll make you uncomfortable so that you have no choice except to expand and grow into who you’re meant to be.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part is when someone tells me they see themselves in a character that I’ve created and how that character impacted them positively. When I was a kid, I didn’t get to see many representations of myself on television or in film and I didn’t know which books to read that offered them either. So creating fictional characters that have real life journeys and lessons that are relatable to so many people is what makes what I do rewarding.
