We were lucky to catch up with Thea Raskin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Thea, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Along with taking care of clients, taking care of our team is one of the most important things we can do as leaders. Looking back on your journey, did you have a boss that was really great? Maybe you can tell us about that boss and what made them a wonderful person to work for?
I had a boss that took the time to correct me, to give me the basics of how the “world” operated. Honestly. I was young, about 27- 3rd job after college and there were some fundamentals I didn’t quite grasp and honestly, I needed to be explained. No one comes out of the womb learning how the larger world, and especially business world operates. I still to this day think about some of the advice he gave me. One thing in particular he made very clear was- my job was to make HIS job easier. I think about things like this all the time now with how I service clients and candidates and how I can be of service to anyone I work with in a team mentality.
Thea, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I work in the recruitment and retention business and my “product” are people. I get jobs for people (or find people to fill jobs), I help people figure out their career trajectory, I listen to their toxic work cultures and their desires and dreams, I figure out how to make that a reality with the right environment and also how to give them the tools to uplevel into an executive that flourishes in their professional life.
What makes me unique is that I understand the creative marketing advertising world so I can identify the best talent for a company but I can also work to take that talent from a creative who delivers beautiful and strategic work to a leader who has a vision and guides a team to execute the work. People come to me for guidance on organizational structure, recruitment process, who I know and can introduce them to and also the ability to better their staff through leadership training and coaching.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I pivoted roles from being in account management to recruiting in it. I actually more so got into business development for recruitment to be precise. This pivot was perfect for my skillset. I was never someone that was as detail oriented, I’m more strategic and big picture and while I could see myself doing the job I used to have more so now, at the time it made sense for me to capitalize on my best skillset- my people skills, work ethic, entrepreneurial nature and understanding of the market. It helped put me on the journey I’m on today!

How did you build your audience on social media?
One post at a time. One person linkedup at a time. You need to know who your audience is and get in their head as much as possible. Think about what “value” you’re bringing to them and ensure you’re breaking through the clutter in an authentic way. Which means- be yourself!
