We were lucky to catch up with Nicole Brittingham recently and have shared our conversation below.

Nicole, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

The mission and heart of Dwell Home Design is that a beautiful home can be for every person. I was a stay at home mom and started to transform my house into a place I wanted to stay and dwell and invite other into. I did this through paint and feature walls and shopping at sales and repurposing items in my own house. I became passionately about others walking into their home and it feeling like them and that has character and features that make it “their own”. I love feature walls because wood and paint can make a huge statement. We specialize in mini Renos. meaning most houses don’t need a ton, small changes and add ins and paint to create their home.

Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Nicole, I have always loved interior design. When I was young , I would ask for new bedding and decor for Christmas and get so excited to “set my room up” to decorate it and re decorate it. I think my mom who let me be creative in my space even if I wanted yellow ! I can remember going to friends house and drinking coffee with them and hanging pictures and changing furniture around, or picking paint colors. It’s just something I have always done. years later with 3 young girls I was give a huge opportunity to fly to a friends house and decorate it! It was a dream come true, and it just kept happening after that. Some of my favorite things to add to a space is “feature walls” these especially in Texas with our large and tall walls can make a room feel complete and more like their own space, I also love to add paint!
We specialize in “mini renos” where we do not do a demo or knock walls down, but we transform the space they already have. We also do demo ! We love helping with new builds , kitchen and bathroom remodels

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.

We all know the phrase “just do it” but what happens when you are afraid, or don’t know how to do it. This is where I found myself. I felt like I needed to do it perfect or “what if it didn’t turn out” . And one day I just went for it. I figured whatever I did to my space would be better than how it looked currently. I just did is scared. I did the unknown, and learned as I went. so then I just started to post what I did, the new light fixture, the small space I decorated and slowly people began to notice and ask questions , And that lead me to taking on 3 paying clients. They were all friends, but man I am so thankful that they trusted me to pay me and transform their space.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

REFERALS ! I am so thankful that my clients pass on my info and share their newly decorated space on social media. This has been a revolving door for my business.
