We were lucky to catch up with Liberty Cordova recently and have shared our conversation below.
Liberty, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
The story behind our mission at Liberated Ascent comes from wanting to create a much needed synthetic free fragrance while raising the bar and being fully transparent with our ingredients, sourcing, and small batch production. We created our products with the intention of our customers being able to connect back to themselves by experiencing the mood boosting properties of plant essences in their purest form from nature.
Our ingredients are also consciously sourced from companies that use sustainable practices from farm to distillery to create non-toxic and synthetic-free ingredients. Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies and what we absorb through our skin is just as important as what we eat.
We believe that our customers deserve to know what goes into our products and how they’re made, as well as producing in small batches to only take what we need from the earth without mass production. We believe in educating our customers about how to reduce single use packaging, recycle, and reuse to drive towards circularity as a PACT Collective affiliate.
Liberated Ascent is raising the bar and leading the way in the new standard of product transparency, ingredient integrity, and quality without compromise. By choosing Liberated Ascent, you can have a more personal and subtle experience. The products can be used as a tool to help improve mood management, emotional support, and may even contribute to improving your overall physical health.

Liberty, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Liberty Cordova. I am a multi-hyphenate artist (actress / dancer / singer) and the founder and CEO of Liberated Ascent, a line of non-toxic, mood enhancing fragrances. We are known as the anti-fragrance fragrance company. After realizing I wasn’t able to wear traditional perfumes without having adverse reactions to them, I discovered the power of plant essences and their ability to uplift your mood and contribute to your mental and physical wellness. This sent me on the journey to research and create my own line of small batch fragrances made up of certified organic and wildcrafted plant essences, which is now known as Liberated Ascent. Liberated Ascent is sold on our website and has retailers across the states.
Through Liberated Ascent, I also do custom luxury scent design and custom scent design consultation in collaboration with other companies. We work together to create products made up of non-toxic ingredients, with a focus on sustainability and transparency. Through experience, education, and access to my resources, I help them to create products that set us apart from the masses, while helping them move towards sustainability in the process.
These products are better for our overall health, for the environment, and are created without the use of synthetic ingredients. I have some exciting collaborations coming soon and it’s been really cool to work with such great companies that are so willing to learn and show such enthusiasm and firm belief in our mission.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin is a big one for me at the moment. I think the wisdom in his writing is invaluable. As far as resources go, growing up and witnessing my Dad as an entrepreneur has always been inspiring.
He really made me feel that anything was possible. He went from being a professional Ariel and Moguls skier to owning and growing multiple businesses from the ground up. He made things look really easy and effortless a lot of the time because he enjoyed the work that he did. He’s an innovator and always has his hands in a lot of different projects as a creative and as an owner, always pushing new ideas forward.
He built an incredible community around himself by always making a point to connect with his customers, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment, and making his work fun even on the hardest days.
It’s truly humbling to see the positive impact his life work has had in his community and with so many individuals to this day. He’s the prime example of thinking globally and acting locally to make a difference. I try to emulate that with my business as much as possible and I know that his influence has so much to do with how I work and interact with clients as a small business owner.
I also find that seeking new information and learning as much as I can plays a huge role in the philosophy around my business. I learned a lot about Indigenous Plant Medicine through Adriana Ayales, the owner of Anima Mundi Herbals. She has an incredible company that I encourage everyone to check out.
I am always looking to expand my education and connect with my heritage through the shared wisdom and practices of Indigenous communities around the world, especially through the use of plant customs and the practices of plant medicine. There is so much wisdom to be utilized when we understand how to get back to the basics of understanding ourselves and our connection to nature.
Witnessing more sustainable companies become accessible to everyone while maintaining the quality of their clean products is encouraging. I think that all the free resources and ancient wisdom Anima Mundi provides in such a generous, approachable, and beautiful way is so rare to see these days. It is very much in alignment with the direction we’re moving in at Liberated Ascent and I always get excited when I find out we share some of the same retailers.
I like to imagine a future where small businesses like ours have the same visibility as large corporations. As well as a lot more small businesses that have similar ethos, full transparency, and accessibility.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think people are moving towards the demand for transparency and the option to be able to choose safer products for their bodies that make them feel good. We’ve seen the backlash of so many large corporations putting toxic ingredients into their products, as well as the long term effects of what those things can look like. Synthetic fragrances can be an extremely cheap way to give perfumes and other products a desirable smell, but at what cost to our health?
Currently, our FDA in the states doesn’t require any perfume companies to disclose all of their ingredients, which can be hidden under the term “trade secret”. Because of this, traditional perfume companies are able to hide synthetic ingredients and harmful chemicals under that term.
This always comes as a surprise to our customers when it should be common knowledge and we strive to do better by them. This is why we’ve established a reputation for having integrity by being transparent with our ingredients, and for creating a line of products people can actually feel the difference in and can trust.
The positive feedback and changes we hear from our customers speaks for itself. Our customers are the proof. They’ve helped us build our reputation through their personal experiences, by sharing them with friends and family, and through their loyalty.
