We were lucky to catch up with Kyza Williamson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Kyza , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Since its inception Kyza Mychelle has devoted its time to be a striking difference in the Hair Industry. The difference is we stand on integrity and believe all services can be preformed with that as our foundation.
I seen a hole in our Industry where clients were unhappy, hair was compromised, and monies were still exchanged.
So I created a buisness that is built on honesty and and integrity. A buisness that sometimes tells the client what can be preformed instead of giving the client exactly like the inspiration photo.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are times that an inspiration photo lewk is possible. As an operator that is always so fun!
However, there are times when I let the client know what the hair can handle. I put them on “blonde boot camp”. This typically can look like my 6 week olaplex challenge. I can go over maintenance with the client to ensure healthy hair goals. We talk about what their routine is how many times a week are we washing, working out, ponytail and bobby-pin usage.
This is the start, as a Beauty Professional we should be able to tell our clients how to improve and maintain the goal. This is the Kyza Mychelle standard.

Kyza , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Kyza and I come from a long line of hair stylists from the south. The smell of Hydrogen Peroxide and hairspray will be forever embedded in my memories!
My first job was at a State Beauty Supply and it solidified my passion for hair care. I was trained on styling and sundries first. Then, quickly became invested with chemical services. I went to sales meetings and hairshows. I sold brands to clients like Redken, Matrix, Joico, Bedhead, Big Sexy Hair, Kenra, CND. The list goes on!
I continued my passion and received my license in AR and then CA when I moved in 2016. I joined Glamsquad in 2016 and helped shape the new territory for the startup which quickly became a movie standard brand. I solved issues with client experience and implemented solutions with west coast team. Very Fun and rewarding job.
I would say that was one of my proudest moments. As the client experience was dispatched from New York, they relied heavily with the feed back of the professionals preforming the services here on the west coast. We all know how different New York and Los Angeles working can be.
That’s part of my personality really. I enjoy listening to people on more than a superficial level. I don’t do small talk. If we are communicating it will always be something of substance. I would say that’s how I have maintained such an awesome and joyful career. I’m solution based, so it’s always been very effortless for me to help any situation. It makes me the most happy when people around me are at peace!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Wow, so many things to chose from. I would say the year 2020 had a chokehold on everyone. If you didn’t hustle that year or just not in you. I like so many other Beauty Professionals had to pivot my buisness. I believe it was 3 times that year.
The background I have and the grit it took to keep my buisness thriving proved to be difficult.
Along with that major of difficulty my son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.
I have two children and they are my everything. Being a mother is another way of how I’m efficient with problem solving. I’m always the referee!
However, those two things combined in my life my buisness which is my passion, and my children who are my world. They both needed me in new innovative ways And as we do learn as humans, you make a change and make it work.
It’s not the problem, it’s the attitude about the problem. A quote I live by!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I would say for me a line of open communication is key. Your clients should be able to reach you. Not a receptionist, or Salon manager. That’s two people that rely information. We have all played the game telephone and it never ends as it started. So yeah open honest communication.
