We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bridgett Prier a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bridgett, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I took the biggest risk of my life on January 14, 2022. I resigned from my corporate position at one of the largest insurance companies to run BrandBP MKTG full time. I remember praying the August before I resigned and telling God I was really ready to make this transition. I’d talked about it for years but never really put the work behind my words. God answered my prayer with the date I was going to resign and the strategy to make it happen. The day was January 18th, a day before my birthday! I can still remember the week I sent my letter of resignation, I was so nervous and even tried to go back on my plan but God confirmed that this was the plan. I turned in my letter of resignation and started one of the scariest and most rewarding journeys of my life. I have now been in business full time for a year and 3 months and I must say that this journey challenges me every single day. I am walking in purpose and helping others do the same so I’m up for the challenge.
Bridgett, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi, I’m Bridgett Prier, the visionary behind BrandBP Marketing, a company designd to build the brand behind your business by giving a voice to your vision through storytelling content and authentic marketing campaigns. I am a Louisiana native, the youngest of 2 girls, tee-tee to 2 bright nieces and a very competitive nephew, a lover of new experiences, the world’s biggest optimist and God’s rebel child. I created a branding and content marketing company in 2017 as a way to make some extra income after helping a friend of a friend manage her social media. I quickly fell in love with the ability to make an impact through content. I then expanded my services to content creation and brand development. Before I knew it I was teaching people how to build strategies that helped them really impact their audience. If someone would have told me this would be the industry I landed in, I’m sure I would have ignored them. As a matter of fact I did. Growing up I was told to go to school and get a good job, meaning be a doctor, lawyer, nurse, etc. Not a branding and marketing strategist. So I went to college with the plan to graduate and attend PT (physical therapy) school. Long story short that didn’t happen. My sister’s best friend was in PR (public relations) and she would always tell me how good I was at it. She would say, you can major in whatever you want but you are going to be in this industry. I would laugh it off and she would just smile and call me her PRPT. Fast forward some years and here we are. Branding and content marketing is more than just taking pictures, picking colors or posting on social media. It is about capturing the unique story of the creator and sharing it with the world. Connecting with other people who will feel seen by your story and services by your brand.
At BrandBP I specialize in creating DFY (done for you) content for my clients, 90 days at a time. This allows them to stop stressing about what they are going to post from week to week and dominate in their area of expertise. I start with hearing the client’s story, their goals for the quarter and how they want to showup on social media. Then I map out a custom strategy, that authentically represents their brand and connects to their audience, schedule their shoot with a professional photographer and videographer, edit and schedule their content. I take care of it all and our clients have the freedom to focus on running their business!
Many of my clients struggle with the strategy behind social media. They are unsure of what to post or what to say to capture their target audience. I provide services, from 1-hour strategy calls to completely done for you content, to give them a clear blueprint to consistently create captivating content for their audience.
My vision is what sets me apart. I always start off with having my clients tell me about themselves and their brand because I am able to visualize their content as they speak. I listen to the details and as well as the things they don’t say to build a strategy that authentically represents them and what they have to offer.
I am most proud of my willingness to never give up. Entrepreneurship is challenging. There are days when I don’t know how I am going to keep going but I trust that this is where God has called me. I feel fulfilled in my work. Helping other entrepreneurs grow their brands through creating authentic content is meaningful to me. It reminds me that you can be exactly who you are and still win. The prize doesn’t require you to change.
I want my potential clients to know that I will work diligently for your brand as if it was my own. I will make sure that you feel confident in the content that we create together and that it allows you to let your light shine!
How did you build your audience on social media?
1 word, CONSISTENCY! My first post on Instagram got 4 likes, no comments, no shares, just 4 likes. I have now built an organic platform of almost 27oo people by deciding to become consistent. When I first started out I would post for a few days and then disappear because I honestly didn’t know what I wanted my social media to do for me. So as soon as I didn’t get a million like and a thousand followers from 1 post I would make posting optional. When I went into business full time, I really got serious about leveraging my social media and using it to expand my audience and connect with them in an authentic way. I started planning out my content in advance, thinking about what I wanted to achieve by posting, and showing up consistently. I know that isn’t the black and white answer that some people are looking for but it’s the truth, in order to grow your audience on social media you have to change the way you think of it and see it as an equal to any other area of your business. Here are a few tips for my practical people: 1. Go live at least once a week – this allows you to build relationship with your audience. People have to know, like and trust you before they will buy!
2. Post short form content – don’t fight what isn’t broken. Social media platforms are telling us that short videos are what people want, so give them what they want!
3. Be yourself – stop looking at other people’s accounts and thinking you have to do it like them to get the results they have. The gag is they have those results because that’s what their people wanted. Your people want you!
Have you ever had to pivot?
In 2022, I took a huge leap of faith and joined my very first mastermind. Up until this point, I was self taught, but I knew that I had a greater goal that required a greater investment. The first assignment was BLACK FRIDAY. I had run a Black Friday sale before but never to this magnitude. I was putting in work! The day of the sale comes and I make nothing. I immediately felt defeated. I wanted to give up on the sale and just take a nap. Then I realized that if I choose that option this would be my outcome. I would have done all of this work for nothing, so I decided to pivot. I changed my offer, ran ads, reached out to people and ended the day with 2 sales. Now for someone reading this they may think, girl 2 sales is nothing but those 2 sales taught me the power of pivoting. If I would have given up, I would have always given up when things looked rough but because I saw that pivoting could make a difference, I now pivot quicker.
