We were lucky to catch up with ItsErnie recently and have shared our conversation below.
ItsErnie , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Moving to Fort Worth, TX was a risk. I knew no one in the music industry when I moved here and was unfamiliar of the history of the music scene and city. I wanted to expand my career and sometimes life forces you to take risks. I am so glad I moved to Fort Worth. It has taken my career to heights and connected me with so many wonderful people. The talent and opportunity in North Texas. I met my current team and all the people I work closely with at open mic at Ampersand on 7th Street. All because I went on a Hinge date and my date’s friend recommended them. Taking risks have helped my career flourish.
ItsErnie , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been rapping for years. I’ve always had a passion for music and poetry. I love hip hop and free styling for friends and fans. Back in College I would rap to get into parties and enter talent shows. My music is high energy and very catchy. I make a goal to connect and entertain my audience. An Ernie show is always special. The tracks sound good and I always aim to put on a great performance. There’s songs that tell stories and songs that will make you jump up and dance. I have a lot of new music coming throughout the year. Another area of business I have expanded is building a Content Creator/Influence business. I started making content consistently these past couple months. I’ve built a following of over 120k on TikTok and over 60k on Instagram. My series profiling “Crazy Bars I’ve heard has garnered attention from major players in the industry and celebrities. I am super excited to grow my music and my content creation..
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Three things: Consistency, Engagement and Quality. I’ve been posted on TikTok almost everyday sometimes twice or three times day for over 6 months. The social media companies reward quantity and consistency. The more you post the more they will push your content. Make sure your content engages your target audience. Make it about them and add value to their life. If you can make your content focus on the consumer and make them feel valued then you will be successful. Quality is paramount. A great hook to introduce your content and improve your watch time is essential. Make sure lighting is sharp and vibrant. Good audio that is clear and crisp. Also, adding captions on the screen will help improve your content a lot. Don’t be discouraged with numbers and views at first. Just keep posting! Keep improving! Social Media doesn’t build overnight just like your business. Good luck!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding thing is connecting with people and building community. I have met so many amazing people through making music. To inspire a fan or colleague is so rewarding. To have multiple people support you and enjoy something you work on, there’s nothing like it. Music and Hip-Hop specifically connect so many people from different backgrounds. It’s done so much for my community and has truly changed the world. I look forward to growing my community and connecting with more and more people.
