Karen , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

Leaving my Assistant Director of Social Work position, to pursue my passion for having my own business was a big risk for me to take. Not knowing if my clientele would grow nor knowing if my current clientele at my home spa would follow me to another location.

Taking that risk has given me the confidence to believe in what I have to offer to the world is worth every risk taken.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Hello all,

I am Karen Jones Licensed Esthetician and CEO of Karen Olivia Beauty LLC based in PA. I was first introduced to the industry by attending Empire Beauty School for Cosmetology. I worked in that field briefly while having a retail associate position. My love for hair faded and makeup became more interesting to me.

While pursuing my Bachelors degree, I worked in mental health , home care & hospice and had makeup jobs on the side.
I have been blessed to be apart of proms, weddings, birthdays, fashion shows and photoshoots.

In 2018, I decided to learn more about skin texture and skin overall health. I enrolled at The Beauty Institute taking night classes and worked during the day. Some days were better than others but I was still able to graduate and take my licensing exam.

Upon passing my exam I opened my home spa Faces Jan 2020 and a few months later Covid shut it all down. I was now working as an Assistant Director of Social Work and contracted Covid as well. While in quarantine I started manifesting having my own business and skincare line.

I research how to start an LLC , I wrote down all the ingredients I would need for products. Most importantly changing the name to Karen Olivia Beauty and finding a logo for branding.

July 2020 Karen Olivia Beauty LLC was formed, I quit my Social Work position in Feb 2021 and opened a location March 2021 in King of Prussia PA.

Karen Olivia Beauty was founded on three main principles: quality natural products, outstanding service and leading-edge solutions. We are committed to providing our clients with the safest, most effective skin treatments and beauty services out there.

A lot of my clients love all natural products that I provide and use in our spa. Our Best Seller is Rosehip Serum. This hydrating, anti-aging serum helps to lighten hyperpigmentation, dark circles and acne scarring. This Power Serum has Jojoba oil added, which has a variety of healing properties in treating skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Seeing my client’s smile after their treatment makes me so proud, I’m truly grateful to be able to provide a service everyone can enjoy. Our services include: facials, waxing, lashes, makeup, Yoni Steaming and Adult & Kids spa parties.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.

At a time were Covid was so new, nobody knew how to treat it. My own doctor office just said they would add it to my chart when I called to say I have contracted Covid. I was literally on my own in finding what to do to heal myself. I researched and found ginger, water, vitamins , fruits and vegetables were my saving grace. I also used my professional steamer twice a day to help me decongest. 6 weeks had past since I was last tested, it was now time to retest and I was Covid free.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?

Sharing my own experiences with everyone, not just my clients. I love to share information that I have learned to others to help them succeed as well.
