We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marta Petrioli. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marta below.
Marta, appreciate you joining us today. Do you manage your own social media?
I manage my own social media. It takes time and perseverance but I think that anyone of my team or external agency could do this better than me. I started my own business ten years ago and I didn’t realize how powerful social media could be. I started to share pictures of my working life on social media (especially on Instagram) without an exact aim. I just wanted to share my passion about my world of flowers & design, to show my projects and realizations and the dedication for my job including my preparation and knowledge on my subject. Over time I understood to have created my target of followers, at the beginning I didn’t know who really was my public but after few years I realized that everything I was sharing brought my audience closer to my brand by letting them experience my style, values, and my commitments.
My public wanted to know more about tips of my job, my services, my creativity, my career, the way how I work… They were completely excited, inspired and engaged! What I shared on my social media was my real life and I think that it has been much appreciated because of the spontaneity and the truthfulness of my feelings.
From that moment, I understood that I was the unique and only who could really interact with the “public”, if I hired someone to manage it for me it will never be the same, my stories, my pictures would be lost that part of empathy , of emotions sharing, because anyone can tell my life and my feelings better than me.
To Manage a social media our own is demanding for sure. I spent almost two hours everyday to organize my social media; I always share pictures at the same time each day, I make a sum up of my working day and share it with instagram stories everyday, sometimes I prepare videos with curious tips of my job. Now I have my wide circle of loyal clients; someone are “real” clients that ask for a service, other potential clients that love what I do and follow my adventures.
Marta, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have spent my entire life in flowers and design. Raised in the south of Tuscany, Italy, as a child you could find me drawing and painting outdoor, pulling inspiration from the amazing sceneries around me. My love story with flowers began many years ago, when I was a little girl and my dad made for me a flower press. I was curious about flowers; the colors, the shapes, the smell… They all led me to a kind of wonderland.I picked wildflowers during my walk (the luck to be born in a small town in the Tuscan countryside!), and I used to observe them for hours before pressed and preserve them as the most significant treasure.
At that time, I didn’t know that flowers would become an essential part of my life or, better, my everyday life, friends of marvelous adventures!
Never boring, never intrusive, but witnesses of beautiful feelings.
Looking back, I can see how so much of my life was prepare me for this passion that became my career. During my adolescence, I created florals giveaway for my mum and my best friends; small bouquets with flowers from my garden, crown of daisies, or herbarium. It was so funny!
I continued to develop these skills throughout high school and university, helping friends who were getting married. I created a personalized floral project based on their personalities, playing with different textures, colors, combo, and decorative stuff. Every time it was so exciting!
After my graduation in Foreign Languages and Literature from the University of Siena, I got a master degree in Interior Design with my sights set on pursuing a career in floral and interior design.
In 2013 I opened my own business, a small floral boutique where I selected the most beautiful and unique flowers combined with exclusive home decorations for my clients.
Since 2013 FlowersLiving is behind the most meaningful floral designs in Italy’s most beautiful places.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect for me is to see my project in mind become real. Sometimes I work for more than one year on personalized proposals for my clients doing research, sketches, mock up, and renderings. This is a very funny part of my job but it can be also a little bit stressfull. Thanks to my imagination , I always envision the outcome but, for my clients it can be hard to visualize the final result. Trust, transparency and conversation is the key during this process. When a client see the final result and say that the design exceeded all of his expectations and truly took his breath away, this is the biggest satisfaction for my creative mind.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source has been social media, especially Instagram, my website and the word-of-mouth.
