Hi Skye, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?

Perfect Choyce is such a special name. The idea for my business name started in my childhood days. I was running for ASB president and needed a slogan. My slogan was “Skye Choyce is the right choice.” As you can imagine, I still feel the same. So Skye Choyce went from the right choice to the Perfect Choyce!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I’m Skye Choyce, the Cake Dealer and owner of Perfect Choyce! I began baking at age 16 and turned my hobby into my dream career when COVID hit.

I was born in San Jose, but moved to Mississippi at a very young age. I moved around a lot between the south from Louisiana to Texas. Eventually, my family decided to move back to California after all the natural disasters.

“Perfect Choyce” comes from a campaign I did in middle school. I wanted to run for ASB president and needed a slogan. Mine was ” Skye Choyce is the right choice!” Well as you can imagine, I still feel the same, expect now I’m the Perfect Choyce!

I specialize in custom cakes and never-before-seen designs and flavor combinations! I offer so many custom confections, you’re guaranteed to love one!

My experience with baking for events is pretty broad and I can accommodate any special occasion. It can be as special as an engagement party or as simple as a sweet tooth fix for yourself! I look forward to baking for you, and I aspire to make each of your orders as sweet and memorable as can be!

How did you build your audience on social media?

When starting Perfect Choyce, I didn’t have many followers. I didn’t even have much of a clientele outside of family friends. I started my business during COVID, so my social media presence was heavy. I posted daily and tried many marketing tools to try and gain an audience. I went to college for business, so I had some skills under my belt.

After a while, I reached out to a social media marketing manager to look over my profile. I had her give me a general overview of things I could do better. I took her advice and tried out some new things.

I learned my audience loves to hear voice overs and see me behind-the-scenes, so I started to create more content with those things and my audience increased very quickly.

I also try to not just post one type of content. I switch off between videos, graphics, and still photos to give my audience a wide-variety of things to see. I am now on Tik Tok as well, where I’ll be showcasing more of a vlog-style type of content.

If you are new to social media and trying to gain an audience, I’d say just be authentic. My audience loves the content where I am just being myself, whether that’s dressed up or rocking a mom bun.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

For me, growing my clientele was a challenge in the beginning. There was even a point I didn’t know how I was going to continue to grow my business without new clients.

In order for my business to grow, I tried several marketing avenues. I posted regularly on social media. I would post my flyers at coffee shops, at high schools, in salons, and even at gyms. Hoping that would gain me new clients, I would promote my business anywhere possible.

After trying a few different techniques, I found one that worked the best! I learned pop-ups are the most effective strategy to grow clientele for my business. Putting a face to the brand, making personal connections, and offering a one-on-one experience is the best way to gain clientele. At pop-ups, future clients are able to try samples, meet me in person, and ask as many questions they’d like without feeling the anxiety behind the keyboard.

Pop-ups have helped my business tremendously. I’ve met so many of my loyal clients and been referred by them for more gigs.
