We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Svetlana Tulasi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Svetlana below.
Svetlana, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Making money as a full-time performing artist is always hard at first, especially if you don’t come from a family of creatives already established in the industry. It takes a ton of training, time, injuries, mistakes, “no’s” and self-doubt, but also a lot of faith, motivation and discipline. With proper guidance and technique, and with time, you can achieve the competitive level to start earning. Also, social media growth can be key to your success.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m an Indian Classical Kathak dancer, choreographer and educator. I’ve been in this industry for over 20 years. Having done multiple TV shows and live dance performances in every part of the world, I have now moved my life to LA and I’m very grateful to be where I am today. I’ve moved to the US in 2020 for my first movie as the lead actor, and have continued my work mostly in the dance field by performing, teaching, choreographing and getting featured in music videos, as well as creating social media content for my online fam.
Highlights of my work: Russia’s Got Talent, Ukraine’s Got Talent, So You Think You Can Dance (Ukraine), viral collaboration videos with Kumar Sharma (Tera Chehra, Despacito, Jag Ghoomeya, Titanic, Alladdin, etc.).
Upcoming projects: Principal dancer at “The Dancers” – a new dance show premiering in Australia summer 2023 and Broadway NYC in spring 2024; Solo performance at the New York Kathak Festival 2023

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to bring Indian Classical Kathak dance to the mainstream crowd worldwide through my work in the blend of film/television and live theatre/dance world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The joy of doing what you love and sharing it with others. Seeing eyes light up and experience that elevated feeling of floating.
