We recently connected with Audri Lew and have shared our conversation below.
Audri, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I would say roughly around the age 8 or 9 is when I discovered that I had a strong desire for music. Most of all my free time consisted of me performing in my bedroom to all the hottest songs that came on the radio. Whether it was dancing, writing, rapping, or singing; I couldn’t imagine my life without music. My music journal quickly became my favorite thing to do after school. I would record myself on cassette tapes and share them only with my sister and brother for fun. My big brother could also rap and we would write songs together as a hobby. I was in the 7th grade when he first introduced me to recording a song in a home studio with one of his close friends. That’s when I first imagined myself being a professional music artist. But it wasn’t until I was attending college and working 2 part-time jobs that I realized I wanted to do something with music full time. I felt like I wasn’t using my music talents to my full advantage. I was overworking myself doing jobs that I didn’t quite love. So from that moment I started releasing songs on SoundCloud, Reverb Nation, & YouTube. That was the start of me working towards turning my music dream into my reality.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I choose to pursue a career in the music industry because of my passion for music and the way it has the power to inspire change. Hip Hop/Rap/R&B is the genre that allows me to express myself the most. The HipHop/Rap culture can sometimes give off a negative influence & promote negative mindsets but that’s what sets me apart from most. Most of my songs will inspire you to want to work towards living a good life full of love, joy, & peace. My goal is to inspire and give people that come from the same struggles I come from hope.
I’m most proud of being able to have another opportunity each day to fulfill my dreams.
I would like my supporters & future fans to know that I will continue to aim to release good music that will hopefully uplift & inspire us all to be the best version of ourselves.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
To be honest I’ve had no choice but to be Resilient most of my life. One thing I am no stranger to is taking difficult times and turning them into something positive. I think me losing close family members early on in my younger years has taught me how to bounce back from any life challenges I face. It’s been plenty of times I’ve wanted to give up on pursuing a career in music especially being an independent artist but I’ve learned it’s not just about me but more about the people I will be able to bless along the way.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I would have to say being able to create meaningful music that can help others in a positive way & connecting with other talented & ambitious like minded people.
