We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Ren Cinema . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Ren below.
Alright, Ren thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
When it comes to music, I learned how to play the drums with my twin brother when we were eight. My music teacher really pushed us to learn songs, as well as read music, which went a long way. As we got older, like 10-11, we started to perform in front of people, and that helped teach us how to perform and put on a good show. Even though I have a love-hate relationship with drums, it started my love for music. Plus, I used to freestyle out with my dad, and that to me feels like a very crucial moment and me becoming a rapper.
I feel like I could’ve sped up my learning process, if I wasn’t so rebellious in learning the drums., at a certain point, I didn’t wanna play anymore, but I was forced to, so I wasn’t really pushing myself to learn everything. I learned rudiments and certain rolls, but there’s only so much and that’s on me. But playing the drums taught me a very important skill which is patience, because I apply that logic now to anything that I want to learn. It gives me the strength to keep going. I was my own obstacle for a while and now I’m starting to get out of my own way.

Ren, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Like I said, before I got into the music industry, performing in front of people and trying to have songs out, since I was 10. I recently gotten into film in high school, I used to be a video editor for video game edits on YouTube. I also used to make really old and cringe videos when I was 10, but I started taking it seriously in high school.
Creatively, I provide song writing skills, musical production skills, using ableton and logic, I’m a video editor that specializes in after effects and premiere Pro, as well as knowing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for graphic designs.
What sets me apart from other creatives to me personally, is that I am embrace collaborative effort. Especially if it’s for a client or someone that I respect creatively, I believe that working with the team is amazing to having the idea come out the most full possible. So I try to adapt so that the outcome is the best reflection of everyone apart of the process.
I’ve helped out people describe and articulate what they want. I tried to pick up what people mean based off of how they are able to describe it and a lot of people appreciate that patience. So they can get their money’s worth
I’m honestly proud of myself for all the things that I’ve learned to do creatively, I feel like I’ve learned different languages of creative expression. And I want people who watch me, or are interested in me to see that I want to change and evolve to do a bunch of different artistic styles and artistic forms of expression. And I hope people are excited to view the worlds that I hope to create.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I want to be able to use art as a reflection of me. When people hear my music or see my Visuals or look at my fashion choices, they have a very solid concept of who I am as a person. For each project that I dive into, I wonder how I can put myself in it or how can I be vulnerable? I want to grow the strength to really embody myself in my art, so through time. Me as a character study is gonna be really detailed.
I wanna be understood, and I think art is the best way to do that
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was 15 I was already playing the drums for like seven years and I wanted a change. I knew I couldn’t just quit, but I also knew that I needed a new way to express myself. I started to make the pivot towards film because I’ve always loved film and had a strong connection to films when I watch them I just never pursued it for real. And I was a big super smash brothers fan, are used to watch these videos of the game, where they found a way to make it cinematic. Having different camera angles, and adding fire and other effects to make the attacks have more weight. I fell in love and knew that I wanted to put all my time into learning how to do that.
So from freshman year to senior year, I stayed in my house and watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials on how to edit. I used to go in Discord, and DM video editors my rough videos to get critiques. I made it my life and it was the best thing I’ve done personally. it gave me an individual voice that I’ve never had, like I can do some thing all by myself, and I’m not forced to do it. I do it because I want to.
