Amanda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Many, if not all, photographers will say that each individual photo is capable of telling a story. For me personally, the entire mission behind my work is to showcase how a concert can make people feel so connected to one another. Prior to becoming a photographer, I was a dedicated fan that attended many concerts across different cities and states. While doing so, I realized how important it was to have photos and videos to remember the event by. It was important that I could remember a time where I felt as though I truly fit in with those who had a similar liking. This is ultimately what caused me to pursue concert photography.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi! My name’s Amanda and I’m a photographer based in San Diego, CA. I’ve been pursuing photography since June 2018, primarily photographing concerts and portraits. My interest in concert photography began when I was simply a fan in the crowd; I remember attending a variety of shows and always being intrigued by the photographers and their work. I relied on those photos to remind me of the memories from those shows; this then became my main inspiration to pursue photography. Since then, my work has only improved and I’ve been able to photograph larger artists such as Rex Orange County and Underoath.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding part of being a photographer is being able to capture important memories. For local bands, this could mean their biggest venue yet or their first sold out show. While for fans, this could be their first concert or simply seeing a band that they felt connected to. Photos that are taken at a concert can never be recreated and I think it’s so important to have those physical memories as a way to look back at a defining moment in someone’s life
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Throughout the photography industry, there is a variety of goals that people will set for themselves. However, a goal that I have set for myself currently, is to go on tour with a band. Aside from having local photographers come out to their shows, many bands will have a photographer that they’ve worked with before, go on tour with them. I would love to have this opportunity to not only make connections with people across the country but also to document the band’s memories
