We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Caryl Pomales. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Caryl below.
Caryl, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
One of the most important things I’ve learned in managing my own creative business, is that I cannot be successful if I am trying to do everything myself. It became imperative early on in my business, that in order that I have my own creative time for my own artwork that I market and sell, as well as the time to create content and teach my workshops, and programs to other emerging artists, that I hire a professional to assist me in creating a good marketing strategy, and follow through with it..
Social media marketing is all about creating and sharing content that will help you build relationships and interact with your target audience. I use it to generate leads, drive traffic to my teaching platform, website, and build brand awareness.
It’s so important to me to know that I can trust a hired professional that understands my business and goals and is willing to adjust a strategy and make sure that I am getting the most out of my social media marketing on a regular basis..

Caryl, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Caryl Pomales, I am an abstract artist mentor and entrepreneur. My passions include creating my artwork, mentoring other artists, traveling, spending time on nature walks and interacting with my 2 amazing Collies and 3 adopted cats.
I established my art business 6 years ago following my retirement from a full time career in residential real estate sales.
I create exciting abstract art inspired by my travel journeys and nature. I also support emerging artists through my online courses, guides and mentoring programs. My programs include mastering abstract artistry and growing an art business through social marketing.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Getting past being superwoman! I had to learn to stop being a perfectionist and to recognize the things in business that I needed the most assistance with. Networking has been a valuable tool in finding the right people to help me in my business.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I realized early on that email marketing is my most valuable social marketing tool. I own my list of 5,000 followers. I don’t have the need rely on Platforms like IG, Pinterest and FB as my primary source of marketing. Getting my FB ad account early on was probably a blessing in disguise. Relying on outside platforms that can shut you down at anytime is not my idea of having a secure or efficient marketing strategy.
