Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Garvyns Duval. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Garvyns thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Over the last 3 years, I have spent the majority of my time perfecting my creative passions, including digital art, photography, videography, modeling, and guitar playing. It wasn’t easy at first. Honestly, I would jump from activity to activity without any real focus on getting better. And that’s okay in the beginning, but if you plan on making a full-time living with your creative passions, you have to get better. You’ll need to get your passion to a professional-grade level. Getting better definitely takes time, though. What I would have done better to speed up my learning process would be to break down the fundamentals into simple lessons for myself. I feel as if a structured plan would have helped me expedite my progress. The skillset required for a career like mine would include patience, project management, leadership, accountability, teamwork, and keeping it simple. With these skills, I can assure you that you’ll go far in whatever you do! That doesn’t mean it’ll be easy, though. You’ll find yourself facing many obstacles as you go about your learning process. For myself, I had poor time management, which would stand in the way of me learning more. So please learn from my mistake, manage your time well, and make the conscious decision to learn.

Garvyns , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Garvyns Shadai Duval, also known as Oji.shadai on social media. I am a Haitian-American who was raised in South Florida for the majority of my life. My industry is within the realm of creative social influence, ranging from drawing, playing guitar, and photography to modeling. Over the years, I have slowly built up my interests and skills, all leading up to my ability to tell stories through any media of my choosing. Currently, I provide services for others, bringing my ideas to life in other folks’ projects, from photoshoots to videocamera work for music videos. I take concepts from clients and bring them to life with my own ideas, adding a twist or new edge, essentially telling a part of their story in a way they never thought possible. This is usually why and how I get my clients; they see my previous works and want to create a piece of work that resonates with who they are or what their brand represents. Even in music, when certain artists or brands reach out to me for my specific sound, they’ve noticed that my guitar style complements what they are and how they want to be seen and portrayed in the eye of the world. Being able to take my clients’ ideas and bring them into fruition is one of my goals as a creative, and it’s what’s important to me at the moment. It all leads back to me telling a story of my own.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
As an artist or creative, the most fulfilling aspect for me is the ability to bring my clients’ ideas to life and to tell a story through any medium I choose. I take pride in adding my own twist or edge to their concepts and bringing a part of their story to life in a way they may not have thought possible. Seeing my clients satisfied with the final product and knowing that I played a role in making their vision a reality is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, having the freedom to tell my own story through my work and to express myself creatively is a significant aspect of being an artist that I find fulfilling.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think society can best support artists and creatives by recognizing the value of their work and the impact it has on our culture and economy. This means not only providing financial support through grants and funding, but also creating more opportunities for artists to showcase their work and connect with audiences. Additionally, it’s important to promote diversity and inclusion in the arts, ensuring that artists from all backgrounds have equal access to resources and opportunities. Finally, I think it’s crucial for society to prioritize arts education in schools and communities, fostering creativity and encouraging the next generation of artists and creatives. another several things to best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem. First, society can increase funding and resources for the arts, including programs in schools, community centers, and other public spaces. This would allow artists and creatives to have access to the tools and materials they need to create and thrive. Second, society can better value and compensate artists and creatives for their work, recognizing that their contributions are just as important and valuable as those of other professions. Finally, society can work to create a culture that celebrates and values creativity, recognizing the important role that art and culture play in our lives and in our communities. By taking these steps, we can create a more vibrant, diverse, and thriving creative ecosystem that benefits us all.
