Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Abigail Litthachack. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Abigail, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about a time where you or your team really helped a customer get an amazing result?
This story that I’m about to share is a secret between two friends. I was told a secret by a friend when I turned 18. He told me to keep this secret until he felt ready to share it with those he loved most… And… well… I’m still not sharing his story in full because he deserves the privacy. However, I made a piece for him that speaks from my heart to our friendship. It has a campfire casting off a rainbow smoke protected by the dark trees under a beautiful starry night sky. And that’s what I did. I protected and will continue to protect his secret… But I will tell you that the painting is sitting beautifully in a South Carolina law office. So he and I are both sitting pretty proud. I love you friend (if you’re reading this).
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, please give me some time to explain that I run two businesses.
One business, I started with my family when I was 15. I started helping my mom gather what she needed in order to build a massage shop (not parlor it’s derogatory) after always working for other people. I helped her budget and basically was her right hand (I still am, but with my own set of responsibilities) in building Champa Thai Massage and Spa in San Marcos. When I turned 18 my mom gave me the option to go to massage therapy school and I spent six months at Andaman Institute of Massage in Oceanside where my “aunt” (she’s family to me) taught. I was studying there while my grandmother was dying of cancer and I was working at a pho restaurant that wouldn’t give me the time to go see my grandmother, while also in an unhealthy relationship and still working as a receptionist with my mom.
I clearly had a lot on my plate… But I’ve been a massage therapist (not masseuse… derogatory) since then and I love it because it allows me to practice all the things I’ve learned in nursing school, but holistic. Our shop has therapists equipped to do an array of massages ranging from Lomi Lomi, Hot Stone, Thai, Deep Tissue, Sports, Prenatal and even cupping! We continue to train ourselves daily by practicing on one another and training one another different styles and techniques to learn how to properly use body mechanics in order to best help “heal” a client. I put “heal” in quotes because we are massage therapists not every one of us has been trained medically and if you are feeling any type of excruciating pains during a massage notify the therapist and if you have any pain aside from muscle soreness after a massage?… Please consult a doctor before returning for another massage. Don’t put an honest therapist and yourself in that situation.
Business endeavor number two, S.A.T.I.A LLC. This right here is my passion project or my “baby.” Through working with my mom, I have been inspired to continue to give back to the people and community that have given back to me most… I was raised in Chollas View, San Diego and moved to San Marcos due to gang violence. I loved that my mom was independent and strong enough to leave her home to create a better future for my siblings and I. I just want to continue to keep my family and friends safe and happy and protected as any one else would. However, with S.A.T.I.A LLC I don’t have to just keep my family and friends safe… I can feed my philanthropist heart by donating to organizations for suicide prevention, mental health organizations, the LGBTQ+ community, the homeless, the hungry, and just the less fortunate.
How is S.A.T.I.A LLC going to do that? Well… It’s an inclusive art company that allows people to express themselves in a safe way and in a safe place without judgement. This idea was coined by me after seeing my extremely talented brother Jerry get turned away so many times for his art that I love. Maybe I have bias? Or maybe I just understood the stories he was trying to tell without any words… And THAT is the power of art. The idea was also inspired by working with some creepy photographers that thought they could blackmail me or use my photos against me or felt that they had the right to demand me for my attention… I just want the world to be a creative and colorful place, but safe and fair for all creatives. So if you’re a creative that has been turned away by companies or even want to learn about how I did what I did? Reach out to me @abigail.litth on instagram or @satia.with.love
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve spoken about this before, but I did suffer a pretty life threatening fall on October 28, 2021. I was overworked and stressed out and my body entered a state of psychosis for not sleeping for six days. Last I remembered was doing laundry and falling. But I do remember thinking “If I died today, I would be content with what I have done in my life…” Now that’s a thought I never shared because most people would probably freak out… Anyway, I’m getting lost… Due to this fall, I couldn’t massage for years and even to this day it kind of hurts, but it’s also something I love to do… That’s also why S.A.T.I.A LLC became my passion project. I had to turn to my core hobby that kept me sane and that was art… Shout out to Michelle Breyer for believing in my art…. I will never forget the classroom where the world felt safe and everything made sense. But I also mean visual and performing art because I was a dancer… and my avascular necrosis doesn’t allow me to dance… but I have been (sorry doctors). Also… S.A.T.I.A LLC began as “queen bee’s creations,” but I thought the name was to vain and narcissistic because I call myself Bee… and I wanted it to be more inclusive.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
Well…. My CEO found me hanging from an umbilical in an elevator on the way to the third floor…
My assigned CFO is my best girlfriend that has helped me better cope with my mental health and also helps me manage medications in a respectful way…
Clearly all love on this end.
