We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tim O’Connell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Tim thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
What started as a way to empty my portfolio, because I had been into other things beside my art, has flourished into an artists dream. People wanting me to do art commissions for them. I was a high school and club volleyball coach. I traveled with my teams on the weekend, practiced nightly.
Then I retired.
Time on my hands.
So I resumed my art.
And what started with practically giving away my stuff on FB, has grown into nearly 2500 followers. I am, an artist now.

Tim, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am married. Now for 37 years. I have always been an artist, just not always active in art.
I think you are born with your gifts, but it is up to you to discover and apply them.
I am best at reproducing photos.
So most of my work is of pets, places, or people. A lot of which have passed away.
That means my work fills a void. A spot that is missing something.
I also do a lot of wedding portraits.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Funding is not an issue, although supplies are needed. So an initial capital investment was minimal.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That people see things differently than I do. When a person says” you are the artist, you do it how you want”, I stop immediately. My art, your wall.
You decide what goes on it, not me.
