Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Gabby Brooks . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Gabby, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’ve worked on a lot of super meaningful projects in my time being a hairstylist, but one story in particular sticks out to me. I had a young person come to me wanting rainbow hair. They described how it’s always been their dream to have rainbow hair but their abusive dad would never let them. They explained to me that their father had just pasted away and they finally got their chance to escape abuse and get the hair of their dreams. They explained to me how they planned on showing up to their fathers funeral with their bright rainbow hair as a last goodbye and overcoming of their past.
Gabby, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hi there! My name is Gabby and I’ve been in the hair industry for about 8 years. I got into the industry with a passion for hair as I grew up doing mine and my friends hair all the time. I didn’t start out and a hairstylist though. I grew up in a small town and thought being a hairdresser wouldn’t make money, so I decided I wanted to be a nurse instead. About 2 semesters into nursing school I finally came to the conclusion that I didn’t care if I made money or not and that I wanted to do something I loved. I enrolled into cosmetology school and it was a struggle getting through. Once I graduated cosmetology school and got into the field I fell in love. Eight years later and I am a successful vivid specialist. I’ve had to overcome many battles, including mental and physical illnesses.
I specialize in vivids, creative cuts, color corrections, and extensions. I am LGBTQ+ and gender neutral safe! I strive to make all my clients comfortable no matter their background and give them the hair of their dreams. I work at Soho Salon in Denton and am accepting new clients! I’d love to have you in my chair!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, I strive to provide a safe space for all my clients while giving them the hair they have always dreamed of. I am LGBTQ+ and gender neutral safe so no matter your background you are welcomed and affirmed in my chair.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of my career definitely has to be the impact that you make on people as a cosmetologist. There’s nothing more rewarding than turning your client to the mirror and watching their face glow and you see their confidence sky rocket. It’s amazing to make people feel like their most authentic self.
