Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mackenzie Hallman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mackenzie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you scale up? What were the strategies, tactics, meaningful moments, twists/turns, obstacles, mistakes along the way? The world needs to hear more realistic, actionable stories about this critical part of the business building journey. Tell us your scaling up story – bring us along so we can understand what it was like making the decisions you had, implementing the strategies/tactics etc.
When I first started planning FSR and owning a business, I wasn’t sure if I would have what it takes to succeed. I knew this would require taking a big risk. The first few months required so many hours of finalizing details and small things that made it all come together. The first year was hard! I knew I wanted to grow and in what areas, so I took on extras certifications to expand my knowledge and education in the fitness industry. Specializing in more than one area helped me the most, being able to cater to different clientele needs all under one business. I wanted to have something to offer for everyone! So that’s what I did. I offer services in personal training both in person and virtual (online), dance technique training, flexibility/stretching training, weight loss and small group training classes. I hope to continue to scale my business over the next 5-10 years and keep serving many clients!
Mackenzie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always been into fitness myself. Growing up I was a gymnast for many years. My background in gymnastics has shaped me as a person and that’s where I fell in love with fitness. I was also into other things such as track and field, dance and contortion. I was always doing something active growing up and that hasn’t stopped. I knew around 15 years old I wanted to coach some sort of sport, so I started with gymnastics. I coached gymnastics for five years and then went on to be a dance instructor. After becoming a dance instructor, I knew I wanted to do something a little out of my comfort zone, so I became a professional dancer for the Atlanta Gladiators Hockey team. That is where I fell in love with performing and entertainment all over again. All of this together led me to starting FSR Personal Training. Fitness is a massive part of my life and always will be. So, I knew helping others reach their fitness goals was meant for me!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by engagement! Talking with people who were interested in what I do, replying to messages and comments, being interactive with people who follow me because they enjoy what I create and do. It’s all helped me. I try to connect with as many people as I can! Social media is a way for me to share my passion for fitness and hopefully help someone else through their own fitness journey.
My advice for those just starting on social media would be word of mouth. Try to meet new people who are into what you are creating/sharing. Stay consistent with your work and it will grow naturally. There is a community for everything!
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Lots of marketing! Social media has been a huge help in finding new clients to work with. Referrals go a long way as well.
